Jr., Jack Van Kyselka, Jr., Carl Beyal The committee has already begun planning on their 1963-1964 basketball season by promoting a Get- Together Tournament on November 4, 1963. Winter Sports Program Planned By CARL BEYAL The Window Rock Civic Cen ter Athletic Committee met forthe second time this month to pre pare plans for the opening of the 1963-64 basketball season and to further outline a complete sports calendar of events for the winter season at the Navajo Civic Center, Window Rock, Arizona. Included in the plans for the calendar of sports events are at least four big in dependent basketball tournaments, basketball leagues for men's and girls’ divisions, an amateur boxing tournament, special basketballtri ple headers for week-end dates and the regular bi-monthly profession al wrestling. Throughout the month of Octo ber during the week open dates the Civic Center gym was available for basketball practices allowing all interested players and teams organizing to prepare for the start of league play. To get the basket ball league organized a “get ac quainted” tournament has been scheduled to start on Monday, No vember 4, with the finals on Sat urday night, November 9. Fol lowing the championship games a dance is scheduled for everyone. From the results of the "get ac quainted” tournament a two-league men's division will be drawn up. There will be a separate one league for the girls. Ali teams and managers desir ing to participate in this Civic Center Basketball League should submit letters of applications to compete first in the “get acquain ted” tournament. Applications for the "get acquainted ” tournament and league participation should be submitted immediately to the Bas ketball League Chairman. P. O. Box 315, Window Rock, Arizona. League games will be played at least twice a week throughout the months of November, December, January and finish up on February 13. Most of these games will be played on Monday and Thursday nights with a few scheduled for Wednesdays. In the league schedule all teams participating will play either two go-round or possibly three go-round. The next big basketball tourna ment will be the annual all-around Fioliday Invitational set for Decem ber 26-27-28. At the end of League play one of the biggest independent basketball tournaments on Navajo land, the Navajo Invitational Clas sic, will be staged on the dates of February 19-20-21 and 22. Then as the season ending tournament, the All-Indian Tournament is being scheduled for the middle of March. There will be professional wrestling as usual and this is on every other Wednesday nights. The 3rd Annual All-Amateur Boxing Tournament is being arranged for staging on the week-end of Janu ary 31 and the Ist of February. For Friday and Saturday nights, dates have been reserved for the Triple-Header basketball attrac tions that will bring in outside and visiting teams that includes special high school games, college games, and the appearance of tour ing professional teams. C., will be visiting USPHS Indian hospitals and health centers on the Navajo Reservation beginning October 28, according to Dr. Charles S. McCammon, As sistant Indian Health Area Direc tor, W indow Rock. She will be accompanied on her tour by Mrs. Barbaras. McDonald, Nutrition and Dietetics Officer for the Window Rock Field Office Area. Mex. pjioae 368-2842 New Staff Members At Sage Two new members have joined the staff of Sage Memorial Hos pital. Ganado Mission, Ganado. Arizona. They are Miss Dolly Be gay and Miss Marcia Holloway. Miss Begay comes from Vander Wagen, New Mexico where she grew up and received her early education. She'graduated from Fort Wingate High School in 1962, and shortly after that entered the Lawton Medical School in Beverly Hills, California. She is taking a one year course which will pre pare her to become a Medical As sistant. She has had seven months of schooling and will take six weeks of practical training and work at Sage Memorial Hospital before re turning for two more months of school at Lawton. She is the daughter of James Begay, Vander Wagen, New Mex ico, and it was while in high school that she was inspired togointothe medical field. She hopes to obtain a position in either New Mexico or Arizona upon the completion of her school work. Miss Holloway was raised in Birmingham Alabama. She com pleted her high school work in that city. Following high school gradu ation she attended Knoxville Col lege for two years. That summer Miss Holloway worked at Sage Memorial Hospital as a Nurse’s Aid. It was because of that contact that she continued to have an in terest in Ganado Mission, so when the opportunity presented itself she returned as an assistant Lab oratory Technician. She has recently been working at the Children’s Hospital and at tending George Washington Uni versity, Washington, D. C., work ing toward a degree in Medical Technology.
