seven or eight, national political parties
may b$ in the fight for the presidential
nominations by June, and, all reports
reaching the capital polat one way; That
months is destined to be the most wlth
erlngly torrid politically within tbs
memory of the oldest inhabitant.
Both the old parties are threatened
with revolts. Each Is menaced by some
such schism as overtook the republicans

organized bull moose party in a spec

Senator Johnson has publicly stated
that* he bases his hopes not on the poli
ticians of his party, but upon the appeal
which he intends to make to the voters
themselves. He said that much in an
ncyincing himself candidate for the presi
dency, and has repeated It since in IWa
speeches, making no secret of the fact thkt
he has a definite platform upon which
stand and that lie intends to stand up
to it irrespective of whether his party
leaders stand with him or not.

ered a post of the first rank, while the
pope has recognized Jugo-Slavla, and
that country has consequently raised the
rank of its representative at the Vatican
