More Policemen by Paris PARIS, Feb. 2.—Paris is suffering from anew crisis, a crisis of police men, whose insufficient number in the day as well as in the night time makes people doubt whether it is safe to be in Paris. The city which is now more Jammed during the day than ever be fore is more deserted over night than drawing aeroplane bombardment in war time. People who have to be out for their business between midnight and 5 o’clock in the morning can walk for miles with out meeting a single policeman. Policemen are ver-y hard to recruit ia France. In Paris, owing to the war, the effectives of the police force were di minished and it has not been possible to replace those who did not return. Fur ther, while before the war, 400 or oOff new policemen were sufficient every year, there are needed today 2,500. Brief Case Proves a Perfect Disguise ALBERT LEA, Minn., Feb. 2.—The old familiar attorney’s brief case Is being used these days by many persons who are far from being members of the bar. Salesmen who run out to the country for one or two days find them convenient to hold a pntr of “pajles,” shirt and col lar and a few "hankies." They take up no more space than a brief or transcript of testimony, providing one Is familiar with the skilful art of packing. They enable the oil stock salesman to make a faultless approach, and coTer the mission of the magazine salesman until he gets inside the door. Asa disguise the brief case is per fection personified.
