6 $4,000 CHURCH DEBT EFFACED Centenary Congregation Wit nesses Burning of Mortgage. The Centenary church, Elexentb and Oxford streets, Is free of debt today for j the first time since 1912, when the pres- j ent church building was erected. A mortgage of $4,000 was burned at the j morning service yesterday. It had been paid by subscriptions of church members made last October. • Homer J. Wilkinson, treasurer of the church, burned tbe paper and Bev. Charles Linn Pyatt, pastor, recited the history of the church's struggles since | its organization in 1908. HirshiTitz and Dr. Arthur Rose will attend the national convention of the Zionist organization In New York City, May 9, as representatives of the Indianapolis district. The restoration of Palestine will be discussed at the convention and the cam paign for $19,000,000. America’s quota of the international Palestine fund, will be considered. Michigan U. Speaker t° Be Heard Here Prof. Alfred Scott Warthin of the University of Michigan and Dean Ellas P. Lyon of the University of Minnesota will speak Wednesday afternoon in the Claypool hotel at the opening session of the Indiana university centennial eduea- i tional conference, it was announced to- ] day. Educators from all parts of the country j will take part in the conference, more! than 150 delegates having been named. It will be held In Indianapolis on Wednesday and in Bloomington on Thursday and Friday. Samuel M. Ralston, former governor, will speak at Bloomington on “The Thomas Jefferson Theory of Education by States," and Evans Woollen of this city will talk on “The State University and Its Service to tbe People.” Labor Day Program Already Under Way Organized labor started formulating plans for Labor day by electing the Marion county labor day committee and calling a meeting for Miy 16 to elect all other committees for the Labor day celebration. Omar G. Smith, Carpenters’ Local No. 75. was elected president of the Labor day committee yesterday at the Labor temple. Other elected were: John Hukrlede, Molders union No. 56, vice president; Jo seph T.
