Clerk. Attorneys. ACCUSE WOMAN OF PLOTTING TO KILL HUSBAND Held Under SIO,OOO Bail With Wealthy Council Bluffs Contractor. COUNCIL BLUFFS, la., June 10.—John j Olson, 45, Council Bluffs carpenter and : contractor, held at Fremont, Neb., for assault with intent to murder H. C. j Leuken t 79, wealthy retired j that place, early on May 12, is seeking obtain bond In the sum of $15,000 for his release. Mrs. Sophia Leuken. 56, wife of the ln teended victim, held on the same charge, has her liberty on a SIO,OOO bond, fnr -1 nished by the aged husband, whos* death, the state will try to show, she planned with Olson. Since the attempted murder, Mrs. Leuken has been on the verge of a ; physical collapse and was under actual arrest until May 25, when she and Olson waived preliminary hearing and wer bound over to the action of the Dodge county grand jury. The husband, who received a bullet wound Just over the heart and another in the temple, is on the road to recovery. "May did not do It,” the aged spouse | says. He does not know who his assailant i was. Aroused from sleep shortly after S j o'clock on the morning of May 12 he re members that a "young appearing” man fired the shots at him. Further than that he can give no clew ! to his assailant's Identity. *‘l had nothing to do with It,” say* Olson. OLSEN TELLS OF Wfc MOVEMENTS. Olsen admits that he was In Fre mont the night preceding the attempt upon Lueken’s life. He said his daughter, who was n stu dent at Midland college in Fremont, had left a coat with a neighbor there. He had failed to get it through tele phoned messages and went out personally to recover It. Hfe failed again to get 1L Olsen says he registered at the Davenport hotel, using the name of Knudsen. In explanation Olsen declared that he thought tlit* was all right and It wat “nobody’* business.” He returned to Council Bluffs on the 5:30 train the next morning, he said. Police say there is nothing to the coat story. On the night preceding the assault, Mrs. Lueken is said to have received a ‘‘telephone call” from several friends whom she said were coming to stay rll night. She asked Lueken to sleep downstair* that night, which was not his usual cus tom. She told him she would stay all night at the home of a neighbor. Later in the evening a neighbor who was playing cards in the Lueken horn* declared that she told him she had re ceived another call and that the friends were not coming. Police state that Mrs. Lueken later told them that the story about the friends coming to stay all night was a fake. They state Mrs. Lueken did not stay over night at the home of a neigh bor. Mrs. Lueken came home at 5 o’clock the next morning, according to her story, and awakened her husband. She declared she made coffee for both, telling him she was going ,to Omaha on the 5:30 train to do some shopping. STARTED FOR OMAHA WITH $6 IN PURSE. This is the train Olsen Is said to have returned home on. Soon after her de parture the assault was made upon Leu ken. Returning home that evening she learned of the attempted murder. Mrs. Lueken admits she had only $6 when she started for Omaha. County Attorney Joseph C. Cook of Dodge county set to work upon the ease and with the sheriff visited Council Bluffs for an investigation of Olsen. It developed the latter was under bond here for more than $2,000, on a charge of giving a worthless check for building material. Police claim be told creditors he could get the money, which was due the next day, by a trip to Nebraska. Olsen was arrested and taken to Fre mont. Olsen denied being at the Lueken home in Fremont. So also did Mrs. Lueken. Police there, however, say the ■woman told others he had been there. After the shooting Lueken rushed nearby house in his night clothes. He was taken to a hospital. Upon becoming rational he begged tor his will, which was made in the office of an Omaha attorney in January last, and which left everything to his wife. When it was brought he tore it up. The Luekeus were married forty year* ago. when the wife was only 16. She is his second wife. Olsen has a family in Council Bluff*
