POLICE REVOLT
IN COUNTY KERRY
Refuse to ‘Associate With Sol
diers in Dirty Work.’
DUBLIN, July O.—A pollen revolt was
reported fro County Kerry today.
Members of the royal Irish constab
ulary were said to have disobeyed orders
to make political raids and conduct
searches.
Policemen attached to the Klllarney
and Cahierelveen barracks refused to per
form any but ordinary police duties and
declared they would not “associate with
soldiers In dirty work,” according to re
ports received here.
The “revolting" constables originally
Intended to resign In a body, but delayed
action pending a conference with the
authorities.
Several Uason officers acting between
the soldiers and constabulary addreased
the dissatisfied men and asked them to
state their complaints.
A constable named McNamee was
chosen spokesman for the Insurgents
and he Informed the officers the con
stables would not co-operate with sol
diers.
He said soldiers might be shot If they
attempted to force their way Into the
constabulary barracks.
He declared further that the constables
would not bear arms and that they
would not conduct raids.
"We are Irish and you are English,’ -
cried McNamee. “This is your answer."
Whereupon he tore ofif his belt and
tunic and threw them at the feet of In
spector General Smith.
The inspector general ordered Mc-
Namee’s arrest, but another constable
stepped forward and drew his revolver,
shouting that he would kill the man who
dared lay hands on McNamee.
The amazed officers withdrew to con
fer among themselves.
A full report of the Incident was drawn
up and Sinn Fein agents managed to
obtain a copy of It.

Medical Test Sought
Approximately thirty-five applicants
will take the examination f<)r medical
registration, to be held next week.
Much embarrassment is met by the
board in obtaining suitable quarters In
which to hold the examination because
of the convening of the special session ct
the legislature, which will occupy t l, e
regular examination quarters.
The place for holding the examination
has not been decided upon.

Fix Islands’ Status
LONDON, July 9.—With A. J. Balfour,
former British foreign secretary, presid
ing. the council of the league of nations
met here today to settle the status of the
Alsnd islands.
Both Finland and Sweden presented
claims of ownership of the Islands, which
lie between Finland and Sweden at the
Junction of the Baltic sea and the Gulf
of Bathnio.
