Orphans’ Allowance
Is Increased in Bill
Orphans and neglected children in In-<
diana will be provided for better If Gov.
Goodrich signs the senate bill, introduced
by Senator Xegley, which has passed the
house, under suspension of constitutional
rules, by a vote of £3 to 0.
Senator Hegley’s bill provides for In
creasing compensation for the care of
dependent or neglected children who are
wards of juvenile courts, to an amount
not exceeding 75 cents a day.
The present compensation is 50 cents
a day.
During the discussion of the bill in
the house, following the second reading,
it was brought out that records of ten
of the thirty-three children's homes of
the state' show’ that ihe average daily
cost of each child in tb? institution is
9S cents.
By increasing the compensation tho
situati.iii wilt be relieved greatly, it is
pointed out.
Actor Draws 90 Days
in Judge Lahr’s Court
Jndge Lshr in juvenile court sen
tenced Harry Rappi. a violinist, who
appeared here in vaudeville last week, to
ninety days on the state farm for con
tributing to the delinquency of a 14-
year-old girl.
Rappi. according to state's evidence,
was seen talking to the girl and later
the girl was seen going to the Plata
liotel, where Rappi was staying.
The girl told the police that Rappi told
tier to meet him on the seventh Boor.

late court, it v.as said after Lahr refused
to suspend the sentence.
