There’s Too Much of Hus “Let George Do If Spirit About These Rooms for the G. A. R. Encampment Is Indianapolis Going to Fail to Live Up to Her Splendid Reputation ? A RE you one of those folks who have been saying ‘‘Huh, Hun / % dred Thousand at the G. A. R. Encampment? How do they get it? You know there won’t be that many. They can get along without my room.” Figures show conclusively that there were 121,000 veterans, wives and relatives at Columbus, Ohio, at the G. A. R. Encamp ment last year. There will be at least 100,000 in Indianapolis. In addition to hotel space, there must be 50,000 rooms to take care of them. Unless something happens to change the attitude of the citizens of Indianapolis, there will be thousands of these old veterans on the nights between September 19 and 25 trying to find a rest on the street curbs, on the steps of public buildings and in the public parks of this city—your city, by the way. These are the men that as boys in ’6l left home and comfort to face every hardship that your country might continue. To sleep in the gutter at union station would have been fun in those days for the boys, but it would be murderous today, for they are now old men. Huesmann, Central Supply Company INDIANA DAILY TIMES, THURSDAY, AUGUST 26,1920. The appeal for 50,000 rooms has been out for nearly three weeks. On such an occasion as this the rooms should come in within three days. The big clock in Kentucky avenue shows only a bare 5,000 rooms. There must be 45,000 more. 50,000 rooms means every available room in Indian apolis must be listed for the G. A. R. This doesn’t only mean a room from the neighbor s house across the street, or your sister who lives around the corner. This means a room from your house as well—two rooms if you possibly can give them. Tear out the coupon on the bottom of this page and mail it in today. Show your Indianapolis spirit by offering to give your room. What will it cost you for one of these old veterans to sleep on an otherwise unoccupied bed? Are you a lot of other people? You’ve been figuring that at the last minute you would give a room if it is still needed. We are right at that time now. These rooms must all be in within the next ten days if they are to be carded and indexed so as to be handled quickly at the station when the trains begin to roll in with the old boys of blue. Figure how many you can take care of. You can do a little doubling up in your home for those few days, if you have no extra room. This is just a little thing for you to do. But you must give every room you possibly can. Mall this today! Dont put it of}!
