At all times in the thirty-four years of the existence of this business, the out standing problem has been to find means by which our workers could be given constant employment. The tailoring business is a seasonal business and at its peak, wc have on our pay roll many in excess of a thousand employes. Our tailors could not live from only the income they earn in the busy periods. Accordingly, we were obliged always to find means by which the dull seasons could be bridged. There exists in Indian apolis no kindred line to ours, which would dovetail with our busy and dull seasons. Therefore, our workers would be compelled to *sek employment in other cities if we did ot find constant work for them here. KAHN TAILORING COMPANY Second Floor lahn building % Two influences have tended to shut off the retail sale of men’s fall and winter clothes—the expectation on the part of the public that the price of clothes is coming down farther and farther and, secondly, the warmest, most unseasonable autumn we have had for many years For these reasons the prices of Kahn Quality Clothes from now on are reduced to the lowest possible level—eliminating all wholesale and retail profits and enabling Indianapolis men to purchase their Fall and Winter Clothes {whether made-to-measure, or ready-to-wear) with the assurance that on Clothes of our Quality still lower prices can not be made. A PERSONAL STATEMENT BY MR. HENRY KAHN Kahn dealers throughout the United States have been placed in position whereby they , too, can offer tailoring at rock-bottom i prices in their respective communities . INDIANA DAILY TIMES, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1920. Our business is to make custom clothes to measure. We make ready-to-wear clothes only as an expedient during our dull sea sons, and we have always sold these with the scantiest profit or none at all. V\ r e have an unusual relation to our employes. Many of them have never held other positions than with us. A considerable number have been with us more than twenty-five years and a very high percentage—possibly the majority—have been with us longer than ten years. Naturally, we feel a personal interest in them, which feeling, we have had many evidences is fully reciprocated. Therefore, we have never spared cost or effort to provide them with steady work. Usually the fall season’s activity continues to nearly the end of the year. Now, because of weather and trade conditions and the How These Reductions Will Help Our Employes Consistent with good business practice, we desire to avoid unemployment. We have distributed $1,500,000 in pay roll in Indianapolis annually. We want to continue this pay roll and the responsibility of finding work for more than 1,000 people rests with us. Many of our skilled employes have been with us upwards of twenty years or more. These people could not be easily replaced. It is far more important to us to keep our big organiza tion intact than to avoid a temporary loss which, in con sideration of our great normal volume of business, is in consequential. Why These Reductions Are Made at This Time BECAUSE we feel it is our duty to do what is possible to stabilize the present situation. BECAUSE the disposal of present stocks, based on re placement prices, enables us to go back into the market and make purchases at lower levels. BECAUSE we are sure this sale will build up our retail clientele by winning the good will of thousands of In dianapolis men who will become acquainted with our worthy product and continue as steady customers. BECAUSE Indianapolis men will save thousands of dol lars on their fall and winter clothes purchases and addi tional employment will be given to Indianapolis labor. public dissatisfaction with prevailing prices, we are obliged to find means for steady employment at an earlier period than usual, and in an increased way. This is our principal reason for this sale. In addition to these very low prices, the purchaser also gets longer wear and constant satisfaction from our clothing. If our offer should bring an immediate, overwhelming response which would fail to be continuous, then the purpose of the sale would not have been accomplished.
