SEAL COMMITTEE
$200,000 Goal Set for 1920 Holi
day Sales.
The personnel of the campaign com
mltee for the 1820 sale of Red Cross
seal, has been announced by Dr.
W. I#. Bryan of the Indiana Tubercu
losis Association. The committee wilt
have charge of the annual sale of the
Christmas seals.
Forty counties of the State were rep
resented at a meeting of the campaign
committee held Friday, when plans for
the campaign were laid. The meeting
was presided over by Dr. Alfred Henry,
president of the Marion County Tubercu
losis Society. The campaign committee
has set $200,000 as 'its goal In the 1920
seal sale.
The personnel of the campaign commit

The Home Service Chapter of the Red
Cross cared for 671 soldiers and depend
ents, according to a report made at a
meeting of the board of directors of the
Indianapolis Red Cross.
Officers were re-elected by the direc
tors, as follows: William Fortune, chair
man; Mgr. F. H. Gavisk, vice chairman;
John H. Holliday, treasurer, and Miss
Agnes Cruse, secretary. Eugene C.
Foster was added to the executive com
mute. Other members of the committee,
all of whom were re-elected, are: Fred
eric B. Ayres, C. B. Sommers, Rabbi M.
M. Feuerlicht, James W. Lilly and E. H.
K. McComb.
Pays Fine for Attack
on Indiana Editor

GREENSBURG, Ind., Not. 6.—The ap
pearance of certain statements iu his
paper, it is believed, caused F. P. James,
editor of the St. Paul Telegram, a Re
publican weekly newspaper published at
that village, to receive a knockout blow
from an unknown person Thursday
night.
James had been actl-e with his paper
in the support of Harding and Coolldge.
Ola Watkins. St. Paul, came to this
city Friday and in Squire Grant’s court
pleaded guiltr to assault on Editor James
and was fined SI. and costs, amounting
to f11.32.

First Congregational church, has been
named president of the Indiana Church
Federation to All the vacancy tnade by
the resignation of Dr. Philip L. Frick,
at a meeting of the association Friday.
Before coming to his Indianapolis pas
torate the Rev. Mr. Savary had churches
in London, England, and Philadelphia.

JUDGE ARRESTED
FOR SECOND TIME
Logansport Official Accused of
Shortage.

LOGANSPORT, < Ind., Nov. 6.—James
A. West, Judge of the City Court of
Logansport, who was indicted recently
along with Othello Smith, deputy prose
cutor, and Don Richeson, ex-patrolman,
for conspiracy and accepting bribes in
connection with investigation of the
activities of a reputed whisky ring here,
again is under arrest, this time on a
bench warrant based on a grand jury
indictment charging embezzlement on
two counts. He gave bond In the sum
of $3,000. '
It is said the charges against Judge
West grew out of shortages in his ac
counts in the city courts. The cash
book of the court, it is alleged, shows

The Depity Constable one day this
week got a suspicion that Fletch Hen
step was moonsbrining, as smoke was
seen rising from his storm cellar. The
Depity, with proper papers, swooped
down upon the cellar and found Fletch
sitting in there on a box quietly smok
ing his pipe, Fletch having got up in
church a month ago and stated that he
never expected to smoke again.

Raz Barlow, who went on a hunger
strike after having been thrown into
Jail day before yesterday, this morning
ate two plates of sausage.

Today somebody asked Sidney Hocks
what was the matter with his wrist and
he told them his wrist watch back-fired
and kicked him
more than SIOO collected in fines unac
counted for in the Judge's report for
September.
It also Is charged that Judge West
failed to make an accounting of approxi
mately SSO to $l7O turned OYer to him as
bond money after a group of men ar
rested on gambling charges had forfeited
their bonds by failing to appear in eouri.
Judge West would make no comment on
bis arrest.
The latest Indictments agalns the
Jndge are said to have no connection
with the recent charge of hie acceptance
of bribes. Three years ago members of
the State board of accounts in checking
up the books of the city administration
here are said to have found a shortage
of S3OO in Judge West's accounts, which
amount was paid in by the Judge, it is
said, and his nooks given an ‘‘O. K.”
HANGED FOB KILLING SHERIFF.
SALEM, Ore., Nov. 6.—Emmett Ban
croft. alias Nell Hart, was hanged here
Friday for the murder of Sheriff Til
Taylor during a Jail break at Pendleton,
Ore, July 25.

HANOVER PLANS
DRIVE FOR $500,000
Holliday Heads Committee—
To Start Next Month.
HANOVER, Ind., Nov. 6.—Hanover
College will start an active campaign
next month to add $300,000 to its en
dowment fund, fefery “grad” or for
mer student is urged to enlist in the
cause.
The national campaign commute for
the drive is headed by John H. Holliday
of Indianapolis, who has as associates
in the work, Dr. W. A. Mlilis, president
of Hanover; J. W. La Grange, treasurer
of the college; Rev. H. T. Graham, In
dianapolis. The country has been sepa
rated Into three divisions, Indiana, all
west of Indiana and all territory east.
Hanover was founded ninety-three
years -.go and has been an educational
pioneer k the Great Northwest ever
since. The college was founded to train
men for tin Presbyterian ministry, but
soon broadened its scope and became a
l'beral arte school from which more than
1,200 have been graduated. Os their
number seventeen have been college or
university presidents, one hundrel have
taught as professors in such institutions,
195 have been public school superintend
ents or teachers and many have become
mlisters in Presbyterian churches.
