Ntl on of Logransport Is slated to lose his seat on the board of managers of the National Military Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers some time after the Republicans assume control of the Gov emment, March 4. according to local Republicans, who say that Congressman MUton Kraus of the Eierenth District made a pre-election promise to unseat him. Mr. Kraus was re-elected. Judge Nelson Is a Democrat, appointed by President Wilson at the time the board ■was reorganised. The Republican desire to oust Judge Nelson arises from the transfer of s large number of Civil War veterans from the National Military Home here to other homes a few weeks before the election. It was announced by Govern ment authorities that the tranafera were made In order that buildings might br vacated to provide for the changing of thu post Into a convalescent hospital for won tided World War Teterans, mostly those suffering from shell shock. ABOtT 500 VETERANS WERE TRANSFERRED. Approximately 500 Civil War and Span lsh-A*jerlcan veterans were either trans ferred from the post or left to live with relatives because they did not desire to be sent to distant parts of the country, the Republicans say. This endangered the Republican majority In Grant County, which has been practically asaured by virtne of the fact that from 80 to 90 per cent of the Home vote was with the G. O. P. Ordinarily the Grant County Repub lican organization counts on at least votes from home members. In the recent election the party's candidates received less than 4£o. If It had not been for the 1 Republican landslide a number of Re publican county candidates would have I been defeated as a result of this cut, : party workers say. In the same breath 1 they charge the Democrats with having engineered the transfer for political pur poses. The desires of the local Republican workers also Include the appointment of a Republican governor of the home, an advantage they have not enjoyed since MaJ. George W. Steele, Civil War veteran and several times elected to Congress on the Republican ticket, was relieved of his command, and Col. A. B. Cramp ton, Democratic editor of Delphi, ap pointed. Colonel Crampton was transferred to the home at Milwaukee some time ago and a Regular Army officer now Is It. command here. HOW THEY PLAN TO MAKE CHANGE. It Is the intention of the party organi sation that Congressman Kraus Introduce and carry through Congress a resolution calling for a reorganization of the board of managers after March 4, it Is said. If Mr. Kraus does not, It is said, local Re publlcsns will do all they can to see that "DOWN GOES THE PRICE” GOLD MEDAL AND DIADEM Navy Bea s, lb., 6c j RIGE Head !b„ 10c 11 Stores in Indianapolis Breaks Up Hearse to Keep Fire Going Special to The Times. Grant County Is in a position to get abopt wbat It wants in the Eleventh district, being the largest county and the home of the district chairman, John A. Jones of Falrmount. The county has not had a Republican nominee for Repre sentative for a number of years, and there are several local leaders who would like to relieve Kraus, especially In view of the fact that the Incumbent has not made a particularly brilliant record In his two terms. Judge Nelson has been on tbe board of managers six years and his present appointment would not expire for two years.
