TIGER OPERATOR GETS SENTENCE George Wrassman Draws Farm Term and $250 Fine. Georg* Wrassman, 106 North Arsenal k avenue, who was arrested Not. 24 by Lieutenant Winkler and Patrolmen Wen ning and Higgs in the poolroom of ’Harry James, 1409 East Washington .street, and slated at the city prison for operating a blind tiger, was fined s2bO and costs and sentenced to serve ninety days on the Indiana State Penal Farm by Judge Waiter Pritchard in City j Court yesterday afternoon. Lieutenant Winkler said that Wrass- ! man, as soon as he saw the officers com- j lng into the poolroom, ran to a rear | room. When the police searched the | rear room they found two half-pint bot tles of bonded whisky standing near the wall, warm and “hardly settled.”. Al though Wrassman had been the only one to enter the room during the past few minutes he denied the ownership of the liquor. Wrassman was arrested and convicted once in 1919 and fined s.>o and costs for having sis cases of booze under a barroom counter, and was given a Bin liar fine again in 1920 for having two quarts In his possession. EVANSVILLE, Ind., Dec 9.—Local police today are trying to connect two reputed robbers under arrest at Jasper with the murder of Dennis Kuhen, 17- year-old taxi driver of this city, who was murdered the night of Nov. 16. The men arrested at Jasper gave the names of William Wise, 26, and George Murphy, 29, with homes at Grafton, W. Va. They were found with stolen loot, and drove an automobile supposed to have been stolen from Kokomo. t The description of one of the men un der arrest tallies with that of the strange man who tried to sell a taxicab at Vin cennes the morning after Kuben’s murder. Says Man Pushed Her Into Alley, Beat Her CHICAGO, Dec. 9.—Frank Albrecht. 21, 627 Milwaukee avenue, has been arrested following an attack on Mrs. Anna Inatski, 1022 Brigham street, at West Lake and Sangamon streets. Albrecht, she said, pushed her into an alley, choked and severely beat her. Unemployed Men of Great Britain Plan for Demonstrations Seizure of Property Through Organized Effort Furnishes New Economic Problem. LONDON, Dec. 9.—British unemployed are organizing for direct action. A gen eral staff has been formed. It was learned today. The officers will wear red badges in the form of rosettes. Headquarters have been established at Islington to direct demonstrations in London. The Islington headquarters ore constantly guarded by armed men. Seizures of property by the unem ployed are taking place throughout Eng land, but they are being conducted quietly. Gloomy predictions as to the British economic outlook are being made in par liamentary debate upon the unemploy ment situation. L >cai councils of the organization have already been es tablished in thirty-six boroughs of Lon don and others are being formed. ! Fears of disorders lead the government to adopt a policy of aloofness toward the seizures where no damage was being done to property. For the most part the seizures were carried out in orderly action without interference by the police. In a few instances, however, the police attempted to interfere, leading to reprisal threats by leaders of the unemployed. Municipal offices of seven subdivisions of Greater London have been occupied by unemployed to shelter their families. COMMANDEER VACANT HOUSES. More than 200 vacant houses have been commandeered by the unemployed. The general staff of the “unemployed army” has formulated long lists of de mands which have been sent to fifty mayors in London and suburban cities. These demands have been turned over to the home office, which is studying the unemployment question. The unemployed are threatening to march upon Whitehall and to make a great demonstration in front of Parlia ment building and the premier's official residence in Downing street, but the exact time of the demonstration is not known. Found With‘Mule,’ Fined and Sentenced John Smith, who was arrested with Sandy both colored and liviDg at 1352 Pershing avenue, and slated at the City Prison foe operating a blind tiger, pleaded guilty and was fined SIOO and costs and sentenced to serve fifty days on the Indiana State Farm by Judge Walter Pritchard in City Court yesterday afternoon. The case of Taylor was con tinued until Dee. 10. Smith was arrested at his home when policemen found a five-gallon still in operation, fifty gallons of mash, a quan tity of shelled corn and a meat chopper, which was used to prepare the corn. The still was of five-gallon capacity. Taylor was later arrested on the Btreet trying to dispose of his products. Awarded Big Verdict NEWCASTLE, Wyo., Dec. 9—Mrs. Fred Walker may never be able to col lect It, but the amount sounds mighty attractive. Judge Ilsley, in District Court here, awarded Mrs. Walker a Judgment of .£IOO,OOO against Walter Sim and the Reel brothers, who are accused of killing Fred Walker In the Osage oil fields last summer. The quarrel between the men arose over disputed oil lands. The Reel brothers have never been captured, and Sim recently escaped from jail and is also missing.
