General Escapes,
Troops Capture Wife
MEXICO CITY, Mex., Pec. 11.—
Mexican troops sent after General Ri
cardo Morelos, who Is at the head of
u rebellion in Vera Cruz, have been
unable to force him into an engagement,
but have overtaken and captured the
rebel’s wife, according to reports reach
ing the capital. Senora Morelos, It Is
sold, >vas captured near the town of
Teocelo.
It is supposed that she was on her
way to the camp of General Morelos,
but search of the surrounding country
failed to reveal the camping place. This 1
led to the belief that word of the ap
proach of tlie Federal troops and the
capture of Senora Morelos reached the
rebel general, causing him to flee to til*
mountains.
The fact that he still manages to koa*
up his “revolt" discredits recent report*
that desertions had so depleted his fore*
that he was left practically alona.
Morelos is the general who financed Ms
uprising by robbing an army paymastot
of money sent to pay Federal troop*
