APRIL 7,1922. SUMMER CAMP AT DUNES PARK TO STUDYAREA Course of Instruction Covers Unique Features of North Indiana. Mrs. Frank J. Sheehan of Gary, chair man of the Dunes park committee of the Indiana Federation of Clubs, has written to the State conservation department that the federation will establish a ‘'Dunes summer camp” at Tremont. Porter Coun ty, on Lake Michigan, between June 15 and June 29. In connection with this camp a course of instruction on the unique features of the area will be given by men who have studied the formation, flora, fauna and history of the region for many years, she says. Men and women prominent in the po litical, industrial, educational and pro fessional life of Indiana, together with nationally known artists and historians, are serving on the executive committe for the summer camp, among whom are: Governor Warren T. McCray, W. A. Guth rie and Dean Stanley J. Coulter of the conservation commission, Richard Lleber, director of the conservation department; Dr. John Oliver, Frank M. Andrews, Dr. Frank 3. Wynn. W. P. Gleason (head of Gary steel works!, Richard Elbel. George Itedpath, W. K. Greenabaum, n. A. Flynn, Senator C. O. Holmes, L. P. Forbes, Dr. Henry C. Cowles. Frank L. Morse, Philo Reed, Ingwald Moe. George A. Brennan, Frank V. Dudley, Mrs. W. J. Torrence, Mrs. Frank J. Sheehan, Mrs. O. C. E. Matthies, Ethel M. Diirfee, Jen nie M. Petterson and Mrs. G. T. Vail. Invitations to attend this camp will be extended to members of the Indiana Fed eration of Clubs, Indiana Academy of Science, Indiana Nature Study Club. In diana Andubon Society, Indiana Fish, Game and Forest League, State officials and school instructors. “We desire.” says Mrs. Sheehan, “to entertain, es- j pecially, those persons living too fat 1 away to visit the dunes frequently, in order that they may see their beauty and study their suitability, as a place of rec- j reation, for the citizens of Indiana.” "Visitors will have the pleasure of ac- j cepting the hospitality of the Prairie Club of Chicago, which maintains a beach house in the dunes. The club also will provide tents on the dunes over looking Lake Michigan at a moderate, rental fee.” George A. Brennan, historian, and Frank V. Dudley, artist of Chicago, will be at the camp, and visitors will be shown Mr. Dudley's dunes studio. How this land appeals to all classes was recently described by Mr. Dudley as follows: “I truly believe there are hundreds, if not thousands, who received their "first real thrill in the mystery, poetry, and grand eur of the great out-of-doors, God's landscape, in the dunes. They are com pelling, irresistible. For the weary, they offer an ideal place to rest—for the energetic, an opportunity to try out the limit of phvsical endurance—for the dreamer, a fairyland—for the scientist, an almost unequalled spot for study— and for the artist, an atmosphere for un limited endeavor.’* 3-Year-Old Child Seriously Scalded ANDERSON. BY MILDREI) MORRIS. ORMOND BEACH, Fla., April 7At S3, John D. Rockefeller is still on the Job. I just saw the master of the world's greatest business and talked with him. In company with Dr. Frank P. Cor rigan of Cleveland, Ohio, just returned from a tour of South America, made in behalf of the American College of Surgeons, I spent an evening with him and had a “rare close up” of John D. Rockefeller, human being. Although past four score in years, he has lost none of his mental Tigor. Physically, he is fit—surrounded by every attention, he looks good for years to come. His hand clasp is strong, his voice clear—l heard it sing the doxoiogy in robust tones. He is optimistic about the business outlook —this man of vast wealth and mighty power. Reminded that >' .rk clouds hover over the world; that events and conditions give little ground for cheer, he said: “Don't worry. The darkness is only temporary. The world is coming out of it all right.” The man of millions is thrifty of speech. He volunteered few opinions during the evening. Most of his com ments, brought out by the conversation, shed light on his views. Once, when the business depression was mentioned, he said: "We only watch events.” An opinion expressed by Corrigan he supplemented with the remark: “Yes, that's true—we need a return to the rule of common sense.” It was suggested that the coal strike would not turn out to be a strike of im portance. “You can't tell yet,” said the man who has millions invested in coal | mines. Dr. Corrigan expressed the belief that the “Russian failure had been an object lesson to the rest of the world," refer- : ring to the Soviet government. j yL 1 Reliable BEVERAGES GOLD MEDAL > t CtßliL ROOT BEER COLA CHER-AY SODA all flavors ■ DfUVERE D TO YOUR HOME. Was it Jazzing itself to ruin, as the sermonizers declare? “It is in this younger generation to suc ceed just as much as it was in my genera tion and the generations beyond that,” he answered. “The world today offers better opportunities to the young people than ever before.” “Work hard and look forward,” is Rockefeller's advice to the young and ambitious to fellow the road to success. “Always look forward,” he said to me as he shook my hand in parting.—Copy right, International News Service.
