Administration Leaders Are
Nettled at Recent
Attacks.
HAS HARDING APPROVAL
■WASHINGTON, May B—Nettled by re
peated attacks on Cabinet officers, male
by members of Congress from tbe floors
of both Henses, a definite movement wss
launched today by Administration offi
cials to give Cabinet members privileges
of the floor in Congress to allow them to
meet their critics face to face.
Tha plan has the indorsement of nearly
all the members of President Harding's
official family, and It is believed the
President himself favors the Idea.
Within the last few weeks Attorney
General Daugherty nas been accm'd of
laxity In prosecuting war-time contract
frauds, of shielding profiteers, of playing
politics with the Civil Service and lastly,
of accepting a 525,000 fee for obtaining a
pardon for Charles W. Morse, indicted
financier, while practicing law In Ohio.
Secretary of War Weeks has been ac
cused of laxity in adjusting overpay
ments on war-time contracts, and of com
plicity In the Bosch Magneto Company
deal, consummated under circumstances
that are now being Investigated by the
Department of Justice.
Secretary of the Treasury Mellon has
been accused of using his department to
aid “big business,'' and demand has been
made that he resign because of his con
nections with many big corporations
and banks.
Secretary of the Interior Fall has been
charged with what amounts to Irregu
larity of leasing Government oil reserve
lands to Harry F. Sinclair and a syn
dicate of wealthy New Yorkers. He also
has been accused of plotting to deliver
the forest reserves of the I'nited States
over to exploiting capitalism.
Secretary of the Navy Denby has been
accused of being the “tool for big Navy
interests,” etc., etc.
In some instances, notably in the case
of Attorney General Daugherty and Sec
retary Mellon, threats of Impeachment
proceedings have been made.
Administration official 0 believe that, if
Cabinet members are given floor privi
leges, members of Congress will be
"more careful in making promiscuous
charges."
Four Killed in

killed and thirty injured in the collision
of two trains near Vouziers today. A

Libel and Conspiracy Are
Charged by Member of

FORT WORTH, Texas, Ma 7 3.—Suit
for S2OO, alleging libel was filed In
Federal Court here today against the
Ku-Klux Klan by A. W. Sasse, of New
Orleans and formerly of Ft. Worth.
Sasse alleged that after he became a
member of the organization klan officials
tried to force him to discharge an em
ploye. He refused, he declared, and
charges that the defendants “Immediate
ly conspired and confederated to ruin
the plaintiff, both In reputation and in
fortune.”
The defendants tried to get Sasse’s
wife to sue for divorce, tha petition
alleges.

Mystery Surrounds Shooting

of William B. Powell and his wife, Lena
Elizabeth Powell, In their palatial home
on Chestnut Hill.
Mrs. Powell was left millions by aer
