MAY 13, 1622. ‘PARTNERS AGAIN’ IS BESn COMEDY ALONG BROADWAY (C*ntiaaed Fr4m Face Berea.) others, that It received a cordial welcome from the press and public. This is the final play of the season 'for this excellent organization which has ’done more than Us share toward bringing plays of ex cellence to the New York stage, and In an excellent maner. The story related by the .characters In this play Is more or less } romantic and Imaginary, although there are telling moments when the owner of the forty syndicate newspapers finds his path blocked by a simple woman. It is a parlor comedy, the sort of comedy his “The Title" was, althffugh It will prob ably mnko a deeper appeal than did this Interesting affair. The French players, operating at the Belmont Theater, produced “Le Retour,’’ a delightful French comedy, as the sec ond of their plays. This week "La Belle Aventure" will be done and then the company departs for Paris. It Is stated on good authority that the company will return next year for an extended engage ment, which Is highly flattering to the nbility of Charles Schauten, the excellent actor and dlrecteur of the company and Richard G. Austin Duncan la directing it “Billeted" la also dne this week for a revival. Grace Griswold, director Os the Comedy Company la making the pro duction, and auch skilful playera as Lola Bolton, Selena Royle, Sallle Williams, Kate Mayhew, Mary Hughes, Lnmsden Hare, Langdon Bruce, Harold Vizard and Marshall Vincent are In the cast “The Night Call,” anew mystery play, was staged by the successful Players’ Assembly at the Fraaee Theater. This Is an absorbing story of New Jersey rum runners, with an Incidental murder, the use of the radiograph—by the way, this play was broadcasted last week by Its story—and an excellent cast headed by Helen Lowell and Brandon Hurst. Elsie Rlzer gives a good accounting as the heroine, and Charles Trcmbrldge Is a manly hero who brings her through to safety. “The Idiot,” the powerful story by the trenchant Russian author, Dostoievsky, will be done next week for two matinee performances at the Little Theater by Reginald Pole, who baa a cast headed by Estelle Wlnwood, and includes Mar garet Mower, Beatrice Wood, Harry Ir vine and othera, including Mr. Pole himself.
