I When n burglar alarm rings rat hi
i the middle ot the night It Is upt to
i be more harrowing tbon a burglar
himself aaya a Ctilcngu exchange
The other morning In the wee ama
hours between dark and daylight a
household of two women xvns nronned
by the sudden piercing jangle of the
burglar alarm They clutched Nch
other with smothered shrieks of ter
ror and lay waiting the onslaught of
the man of blood and iron
The time seemed IntermlnnbVe and
every onnd seemed fraught with dl
rect Import of dread The utair
creaked the bed sighed in fright the
chairs and table all seemed to be
holding a whispered consultation ni
how best to confound the enemy and
the curtains swathed themselves into
ghostly visitors with every breath of
air that flew in through the open
window
At last suspense became unbear
able and carefully arising the two
shivering women tiptoed quietly out
of the room nnd down the darkened
hallway to the stairs and after an in
stant or two of breathless indecision
they walked down to the lower floor
and still no sight of an intruding vil
lain shocked them kilo unconscious
nens Alter that their oonrage rV
turned to their trembling finger tips
and they mnrchd boldly into the din
ingroom only to discover that the
wind had lowered an unfastened win
dow and the reason of the alarm was
apparent
Now they are wondering if they
wouldnt rather have a burglar than
a burglar alarm
