BAUGH Senator McCkeaby will not resid0 in Washington, New York or any other metropolitan center after March 4, when his term expires. Some of the reports even take the Senator on a long Euro pean trip. Tho Senator is going back to his old Kentucky home to live among the people he has bo faithfully served in his long congressional career. He says: "A few weeks after Congress adjourns I will return to Richmond, Ky., and my residence will bo in the State and county and town where I was born and reared, and where I have so often been honored and whose people I love so well. I shall occupy the same home in which I have lived for many years. I am satisfied with my religion, my politics and my home, andI do not desire to change either, and I shall stand ready to help my friends and shall always take an interest in prog ress, politics and education, and in ev erything that will advance or benefit Kentucky, to'whosc people I shall al ways be grateful for the cordial friend' ship and the hearty support extended to me for many years." The editor of the Glasgow Times pre dicts that Judge O'Kear, of the court of appeals, will be the next republican candidate for governor, and that he will run on a State-wido prohibition platform. This may be true, but it is written in the stars that Kentucky is now enduring her last republican gov ernor. Caleb Powers and assassination generally, have already had too wide a range. The country breathes easier. The men on the bond of Beach Hargis, who is charged with the murder of his fath er, Judge James Hargis, surrendered him to the Breathitt county officers and he was arrested and taken to the jail at Irvine to await his second trial in April. The first trial resulted in a hungljury. Miss Auce Lloyd has severed her connection with the Burley Tobacco Association. The association will show itself most ungrateful if it does not substantially reward her. She has done far moro than the night riders in bring ing about an adjustment of affairs. A dozen or moreof Senator W. 0. Bradley's Lancaster friends will ac company him to tho Capitol City, think ing possibly he might get off ut Char lottsville, Alexandria or somo other way station and proceed to represent ing them then and there. C0NGHES9 has appropriated $137,000, 000 for tho navy, 1103,000,000 for the army and $100,000,000 for the pension ers. For a pcacoful nation this seems to bo going somo for wars past and scarcely prospective. It begins to look like every member of the next Legislature will bo a candi date for speaker. However, somo who are announcing aro only talking thro' their hats to get talked about. Chicago still remains tho healthiest American clly of moro than 350,000 In habitants, according to the annual re port of the Chicago Health Department. Its death rate from all causes is 14 10 ptr 1,000. The Windy City also carries tho pennant for having moro big-footed women than any other city on terra firms. In San Domingo they havo a good way of curing an embezzling official. They promptly cut his head off and ho never Bins again. A fellow appeared $650,000 behind and he was dead In n few hours. In Kentucky it is tho poor devil who steals apittaco that feels tho elTecta of the law. AT ftny rate Mr. Knox will get $500 moro for being Secretary of State than Senator, which will at least furnish his wife pin money. POLITICAL. The South Dakota House passed tho Senato equal suffrage bill. Gov. Marshall, of Indiana, vetoed tho bill legalizing Sunday baso ball. Gov. Patterson was introduced as n witness in the Cooper trial at Nashville. Chris I Mueller. of Louisville, who bolted Gov. (Beckham for tho Senate, died at his homcSunday. Tho death of one of their members has left the Republicans without a ma jority in tho Missouri House. Tho Brollev bill, legalizing tho play ing of baseballlon Sunday, passed the Indiana Senateiby a vote of 30 to 18. Mavor Tom L. Johnson, of Cleveland, has officially notified tho Ohio Supreme Court of his intention to become a law yer. It is said that): Franklin MacVcagh, of Chicago, has been offered and has accepted the Treasury portfolio tender ed by Mr. Taft. The final week of tho Indiana Legis lature will'sce bitter fights on tho rc pealof tho county option law and Sun day baseball bill. The military; academy appropriation bill was reported to tho Senate Satur day. It carries"$2.541,421, an addi tion of $18,000 over the amount of the b',11 as it was passed by theHouse. J. O. Carter, for many years a prom inent figure in the business and polit ical life of the Hawaiian Islands, is d;ad in Honolulu. Hejwas adviser to Queen Lilijokalani at the timo the monarchy was overthrown. Representative Ollie James, of Ken tucky, criticised the tpassage of the Brownsville bill in the House. He said that President Roosevelt had back-tracked on his original position and that the measure provided a "re- wardlfor crime." The passage of the agricultural ap propriation bill by tho Senate Friday followed an i extended debate on the forestry service, whichjioccupied the entire session. As passed the measure appropriated $13,075,716, which is an increase of $191,890 over the bill as passed by theJHouse. The eightJDemocrotic Senators who Friday broke the quorum in the Ten nessee Legislature and fled to Ken tucky to prevent their arrest, have abandoned their intention of returning to Nashville Monday, and say they will remain in Hopkinsville until the Gen eral Assembly adjourns. Assistant Sargeant-at-Arms Yeaman arrived here to-day, and is (keeping the Sena tors under strict) surveillance. Tho S.-nators held a long conference with Gov. Patterson's private secretary and with Austin IPeay, his political manager. Different TreesjAre the Answers. A printing and paper concern burned, and everything connected with it can be answered by the names of different trees, as follows: By whom was building set on fire? What was first seen? What was the quickest article to burn? Sambo looking on said to Dinah? After fire what was manager's wife doing? What will the poor news boy do? How many of the fire force proved heroes? Who was the lost boy calling during fire? After many days one said to another, "Hear about fire?" After all was over what did they find? The first one giving the correct answers to the above will be presented with a years's subscrip tion tn the Interiok Journal Name of the winner will appear in our issue of Tuesday, May 9. Soldier Balks Death Plot. It seemed to J. A. Stone, a civil war veteran, of Kemp, Tex., that a plot existed between a desperate lung trou ble and the gravo to cause his death. "I contracted a stubborn cold," he writes, "that developed a cough that stuck to me, In spite of all remedies, forjears. My weight ran down to 130 pounds. Then I began to use Dr. King's New Discovery, which restored my health completely.
