Miss Ore Gabbard has returned heme after a delightful summer at Winona Lake. Mm. S. E. Welch left Friday for Mt. Jackson, Ind., for her health. Born, September 17th, to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hawkins, of West End, a 14S pound boy, Charles Edwsrd. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson, of Bowling Green, are visiting this week with Mrs. Anderson's sister and brother, Mra. John Welch and Joe Gilbert. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Reams, of Ra venna, have been visiting their aunts, the Misses Duncans and Mrs. W. J. Blantnn. Mrs. R. L. Duncan, who has been operated on at the Robinson Hos pital, ia getting along nicely. Mrs. A. T. McGuinn, of Middle town, O., is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tarlton Combs on Center street Miss Lizzie Minnich, of Frankfort, Ky., visited Mr. and Mrs. Tarlton Combs, Tuesday and Wednesday. Richard H. Howard and wife, of New York City, who have been s ending three weeka with Mr. How ard's parents, Mr. and Mra. Tarlton Combs, of Berea, and with other friends and relatives in Irvine, will leave for their home, Saturday, Sep tember 23. Mr. Howard ia private secretary to a Mr. Ehert, of New York. Mrs. Howard in a native of New York, and this is her second visit to Berea. She is fond of Berea and has made many friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Howard are visiting President and Mrs. Frost today. Mr. Howard was a great friend of Cleveland Frost He was the only Berean standing on the piet when Cleveland set out on his last voyage. Edward F.White, of Indianapolis, a giaduate from Berea College in 1881, was here to attend the dedication of the Union Church, as the guest of Professor and Mrs. Dodge. Mr. White is a lawyer, and has prepared many law books for publication by the Bobbs-Merrill Company, with which he is connected. His splendid address upon Rev. John G. Fee, de livered in the Fee Memorial Church, will be found on page eight Professor and Mrs. LeVant Dodg gt to Des Moines, Iowa, to attend the National Encampment of the G. A. R., which will cover next week Professor Dodge is to fill the pulpit of one of the leading churches of Des Moines, next Sunday. They are to be away from Berea for three or four weeks. The little son of B. F. Harrison, who has typhoid, is no better. John Muncy is building a house on Center street for A. E. Orr, who is moving to Berea to put his little girl in school. The lot was purchased fiom Dean & Hemdon Realty Co. Mr. and Mrs. Witt of Estill county, left Berea last Monday, after a short visit with their daughter and son-in-law, Dean and Mrs. F. O. Clark. John W. Welch and family, who spent the summer at Winona Lake, returned to their home Saturday Mr. Welch left Monday for Louisville to take a course in the Baptist Sem inary at that place. . A. J. Wilder, who has rented the property on Short street ef J. B. Richardson, waa in Cincinnati the first of the week buying his groceries ar.d outfit for a meat market. MUSIC RECITAL On last Saturday afternoon a re cital waa given by Mra. Edwards' music class, in which the following pupils took part: Janette Walden, Marjorie Belle Clark, Ona Bender, Catherine Edwards, Joe Bender, El- wood Roberts, Mamie McKJnney, Le na Elkins, Elizabeth Elkins, Howard Wilder, Margaret McWilliams, Mary Powers, Jane Powers, Annabel Por ter, and Elinor Baker. TO TEACHERS There will be a School and Agri cultural Fair held at Berea, October 19, 20, and 21. Friday, the 20th, will be largely devoted to school activi ties. In the next few days each teacher should receiva a lint of events in which the schools are to take place. Any teacher whoae school ia included in this event who does not receive this list should write to C. O. Bow man, Berea, Ky. Catalogs will be out in the sear future. Mr. and Mrs. John Welch returned I Sundsy night from Winona Lake. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Langford, of Mt. Vernon, visited Mra. W. T. Lutes, Sunday. Mr. Gardner Is spending a few days at home with his family. Mr. and Mr. S. Winkler attended the Sunday School in Convention in Richmond last week. Thomas Winkler, of Dreyfus, has been visiting here. Mr. and Mrs. Nash spent the week end with their daughter in Wildie. Little Margaret MrDanieL infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Mc Daniel, is very ill with pneumonia. FARM BUREAU MEETING A special meeting of the members of the Berea branch of the Madison County Farm Bureau was held at the Vocational Chapel in Berea on Tuesday night for the purpose of taking up several matters of business. Some thirteen members were present A B. Angel, the Berea Director of t'ie County Organization, called the meeting to order. After some dis cussion it was decided to perfect a local branch organization, and G. B. Angel was elected president and M. I Spink secretary. Lists of orders for fertilisers, rye snd red clover seed, were made up to be forwarded to Tom Collins, th County Secretary at Richmond. To give an idea of the benefits of the Farm Bureau, it might be stated that already the County Secretary has purchased 10,000 bushels of seed rye for the farms of Madison county, at a saving of about $4,000. A meeting of the local branch of the Bureau will be held at the Voca tional Chapel in Berea the first and third Tuesday of each month, and it is urged that every member be pres ent and get the benefit of the Bureau Many farmers have already lost con siderable money by not getting their orders in for fertilizer, seed, etc. A special meeting of the local branch will be held Tuesday night, September 26, for the purpose of placing orders for grass seeds, etc. BAPTIST CHURCH MEETING CLOSES The revival which had been in prog ress at the Baptist Church for 13 days closed last Friday. The meet ing was conducted by Rev. S. J. Can r.on, of Louisville, formerly pastor of the Walnut Street Baptist Church of that city. Mr. Cannon is a well read man, with convictions. Good crowds attended and much good has been accomplished. More than 30 members have been added to the church as a result of this meeting BASEBALL Johnson Park, Sept. 17. The Hust lers defeated Lancaster here today in a fairly good game. Bowman did the pitching, and seemed to have things pretty easy most of the time. The locals had the strongest line-up they have had for some time. Some of the oli regulars were bark in their o'd positions. The feature of the game was a catch made by Farmer. The Hustlers have only two more games to play this season, one with Paint Lick, Wednesday, at Paint Lick, and Richmond next Sunday, place to be played has not been de cided on. COLORED NOTES Mrs. Alice Kindelle Reid leaves Wednesday morning for Dayton, O., where she will visit relatives and friends several days. Mr. and Mrs. John Chadwell, of Brassfield, Ky., were the guests of Mrs George Reynolds, Sunday. Titus Bennett, formerly of Berea, is at home on a visit until the first cf October. The Berea community fair will be held at Berea fair grounds, Septem ber SO. Admission, adults 25c, chil dren 15c. Free dinner. Everybody crme snd bring a basket. This fair will be of special interest to farmers and industrial workers. Splendid speeches will be msde by responsible speakers and song services rendered by Berea and Middletown schools.
