their Intention of attending the Ohio
Valley Exposition which will be held
here next fall a sufficient number of
acceptances to Invitations have been
received from noted men of America
to make the absence of foreign nota
blew felt not at all One of the first
promises to attend the Exposition
from men of International reputation
was received from President Taft
who besides praising the objects tor
which the Exposition will bo held
declared his intention of spending at
least a week In Cincinnati during the
time of the progress of the big Indus
tlal enterprise Following the accept
ance of President Taft came others
from Governor Denccn of Illinois
Governor Harmon of Ohio Governor
Ilasscoek of West Virginia Gover
nor Marshall of Indiana Governor
Patterson of Tennessee nnd Gover
nor Wlllson of Kentucky Later
came assurances from all the mayors
of the cities of the Ohio Valley
promising their support to the enter
prise and expressing their Intentions
of coming to Cincinnati to spend
some time during the Exposition
Within the past few days another
trump card has been played by the
Exposition in securing the promise of
Former President Roosevelt to come
to Cincinnati during the time of the
Exposition Colonel Roosevelt is de
sirous of coming here for several rea
sons It was his greatuncle Nicho
las Roosevelt who built the first
steamboat that navigated tho Ohio
river she being launched Just 100
years aoIn 1810and it being par
tially in commemoration of this
event that the exposition Is being
held It also was In Cincinnati ip
i 1902 that Colonel Roosevelt then

bank dam in the Ohio river near
