expense of the sewers but this is an

not exceeding one dollar a front

WORK OX THE NEW STREETS
The board of public works will
meet this afternoon It has a good
deal of work on hand and will con
skier much of It today
Tho question of cleaning the
streets will come up for settlement
Some of the members of the board
are In favor of purchasing a flush
ing water cart to clean the streets
and obviate the dust nuisance of the
present sweeper system
The board will also discuss the
proposition of experimenting proba
bly this year on a gravel street con
structed on a cdncrete foundation
and tho gravel surface to be mixed
with tar or pitch The curbing and
gutter would be concrete and so al
so would the pavement The board
thinks such a street would make an
excellent resident street Mayor YeI
ser also Is anxious for such an ex
periment to be made and the propo
sition is to take Fifth street which
It seems to bo tho desire of everyone
to see Improved and try It on por
tions of the street
Storm Savers
Secretary of the Board Wilhelm Is
also anxious for the board to rec
ommend the construction of storm
sewers on the gravel streets where
they are necessary for proper drain
age and he contends and it seems
Is I borne out by the charter that
such work Is to be done at the ex
perise of the abutting property own
ors This would save the streets from
washing away and be a good sanlta

consideration
