I'adueab wheelmen are loud in

More than One cyclist have

while it is not likely thai any legislation
could be enacted regulating the
"prinkling of struets lor tbo protection

Speaking of bicycles, tbe I'adueab

commendation fori its persuvcrencc

and failuros in its nlpiost
every undertaking. Never has a
sueeorisful mcc been given here,
aud never have tbu people taken
kindly to sulwcrlptlons raised for
building the proper kind of u truck.
vsbeclmen Dually took the matter
in band themselves, and now have
succeeded, by dint of hard uoik and
generous contributions, in giving
i nali the host bicycle track in south-
vmmUm Kentucky, i There will bo a
of rncos Ibis summer and fall,
and it in hoped the Aiublic will evidence
it appreciation by responding
mor liberally in in patronage than
it has done heretofore.
And speaking further of wheelmen,
it is estimated iMmt there are in use
l'lulucttb today about 1000 blcjcles.
Some of tbeo rfheebnen and wheel-women
aro too reckless, and
their privileges and rights,
while they overlook completely those

alo ono requiring them to carry a

about tbo only cjty of any size in
Kantucky where bicyclists nreuot required
to carry limps at night. Such
an ordinance would bo quito as much
nn advantage to' the wheelman as to
the public, licncc it is likely no ob
jection be encountered to its
patenga.

Uusincss was somewhat better on
the wharf this morning than for several
days previous There was an excellent
lot of freight handled on the
levee and tho boats in nnd out
seemed to be doing very nice freight
business.
The Dick Fowler, without waiting
for tho packet to arrive from
morning, skipped out for
tbu lower Ohio on nico time. Her
freight receipts were about aB usual.
The Ashland City id due hero tonight
out of the Teuncjsec river aud
will remain over here until Monday
at noon before returning to Danville,
Tenn.
The harbor boat Mary N was al
work this morning attempting to
raise the tug Lamasco, which mink at
the foot of Ohio street somo time
past. The water has fallen oft her
hull sulllcicntly for them to pump her
out nnd is expected to bo very little
trouble in raising her. Sbo will un
dergo repairs when raised.
Tho Clyde was lying in the "hole"
at tbo head of tbo wharf boats
throughout this forenoon receiving
her cargo for this afternoon's departure,
when she leaves for Florence
aud all Tennessee river points, nt 4
o'clock. From the number of drays,
express wagons and other trucks of
eury description that wero. carrying
freight to her sbo is expected to pull
out this p. m. with nn excellent
freight trip, in addition to quite a
number of passengers.
The handsome steamer Sunshine
will put in her appearance hero today
from Cincinnati bound for Memphis,
while her partner, the big Uuckcye
Mute, is due to pass up from tho
Itluff City on tho Mississippi en
route to the Queen City of tho Ohio.
Hotb nro expected to be doing
splendid business,
Tbo Ohio river, notwithstanding
tho already extremely low stages,
continues to go down the banks al
the gait of about n foot in 18 hours.
The fall of Inst night was a fraction

with tho present state of tho river.
Owing to the extremely low slago
of water aud heavy business tho Ev-

in getting hero on time. It was after
2 o'clock yesterday when tho Joe

the John S. Hopkins, which was due

The wavs aud docks arc still work
