April 18.—Atlanta has come to Hie front in golf in recent years, mainly through the development of sev eral young stars, who have caused older and more experienced golfers of national and even international famo more trouble titan they bargained for when they tackled the fine courses here at the East Like and Druid Hills clubs. Everyone knows of the remarkable rec ords of Perry Adair and Bobby Jones, but there is a 17-year-old golfer hero whose future, In my opinion, will he more brilliant than that of either of these, if he cares to make the most of his golf. He is Tommy Prescott. While these other Atlanta youngsters, who have won places in the goif hall of it playing golf since they Tub around, Prescott did seriously until about a year ago. He had formerly played baseball and football, which accounts lor his superb athletic build. On the links Prescott is the acme of coolness; nothing bothers him. Ho meeis good und bad breaks with the same stoicism. He never loses Tiis tem per and plays his best golf under the greatest mental strains. Ills opponent's game has no effect on him. To the casual observer Prescott seems to play carelessly, but the reason for this is that his Judgment of distance and « if conditions is so remarkable that lie gets away with his strokes before the aver age golfer would have finished his prelimi nary size-up. Golfers in the future must reckon with Prescott. He is a golfer of the Vat don and Hay type, much stronger physi«*ally titan Evans. Travers and most of the other present-day golfers of prominence, lie has the temperament to hack up his strength and seems to play golf intu itively.
