the intention of the commissioners to

mom than $4 a day according to law,
and promised to take the question of

consideration. The road workers have
been getting $4.
That the Metal Mine Workers' union
Intends making an effort to close the
independent mines which are still
operating has come to light through
a resolution passed by the union yes
terday. In this resolution the Camp
bell union declares unfair all employ
ers of mining labor In the Summit
Valley district, which takes in Butte
and portions of Silver Bow county.
Under this action ail the miners em -
pfoyetf in these mines are also unfair.

CHARGE THREE MEN WITH
FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT
Before Judge McClernan this morn
ing County Attorney
«on filed an information against John
Hsfur, Martin Feriter and Henry J.
Moeller charging anaault in the first
degree in an attack on John Crone
with a loaded revolver. Crone was
»hot in the leg with a revolver al
leged to have been discharged by
Moeller, while it is alleged that the
other two men attacked Crone with,
beer Dottles Moeller was the only
one of the three arraigned and. after
waiving time, he entered a plea of not
guilty. His bond was fixed at $5.000,
which had been prepared, and was
approved by the judge. The bail wax
at first fixed at $3,500, but when it
was known that Moeller had prepared
a bond for $6,000 the ball was changed
to that amount.

The senate then proceeded to the
periodical tax provision.
Senator Smoot announced he would

offer the amendment for the highest,

I trograd, Aug. 28.—At the trial for
high treason of tleneral Soukhomlin
on, former minister of war, General
Jvanoff, former commander in Vol
hynia and (Salicia, testified yesterday
he had information showing that mil
itary secrets had been communicated
direct from Petrograd to Germany and
Austria by way of Warsaw.
General Velitchko. deputy director of
the engineer corps, said he regarded
General Soukhomlinoff as having
been principally responsible for the de
feats of the Russian army.
As soon as he was appointed minis
ter of war, the witness testified, he
suppressed Y'arious councils created for
the puriHise of discussing questions of
national defense
Former Emperor Nicholas, General
Velitchko said, should not be held re
sponsible for the military misfortunes
of Russia, as he saw everything
through the spectacles of General
Soukhomlinoff.
