Cre doe, a ilang eaglneer, in. compan with nseral Butte citiens, reeently made an Inapectios of the 8pring HrD mine, five miles south of Helens, I taken to mean that some steps may be taken to reopen this property, which. three years ago, was eloed owlng to the heavy cost of hauling the ore from the mine to the rail owned principally by W. C. Conrad. a Helena banker. There is much activity in the Union ville mining section and among others Jesse Searles, a former Butte news paper man, has opened a promising plaim in what is known as Squaw gulch. Butte capitalists are inter ested with Mr. Searles in the property. eral dg mines have been discover, l n this district, including the Spring HilL the Whitelatch Union the Win soott or Big Indian mine, and the Schaeffer property. The minlng distriot between Wins ton and Townsend and extending west to Hassel and Radesbunrg is attract ing more and more attention, several Important strikes having been made. The Broadwater County Mining com pany is working on ore in its Copper Glance claim, which averages $30 a ton in gold and carries good values in copper. The company owns a group of four claims. In the Hassel district James Green, who encountered splendid gold ore iat fall Is stoping in galena ore, and making occasional shipments. He is developing his mine as his means will allow, and is confident that in another year the property will have developed into a bonansa. In the same district Fred and Frank Whiteside are making preparations to mill 30,000 tons of ore which they have on hand. William Elliott has resumed work on his SBhley claim, and Oscar Bparta is removing good ore from his mine, The Boomerang, and is making regular shipments. The Radersburg Gold Mining com pany has incorporated for the pur pose of operating in the Radersburg district, the company having taken over several claims In that camp. The Keating Gold Mining company has opened a new ore body on the 700 foot level in its mine at Radersburg, and the values are reported to be equal if not better than those encoun tered in the levels above. The com pany Is shipping on an average of 15 tons of ore a day to the smelters at Mast Helena and Butte, the values being better than $20 a ton net. A report has been received here that a large coal deposit has been discovered on Butler creek, seven miles from Missoula, and that a com. pany has been incorporated to work the property. Lying In Desk at Liverpool. Liverpool, England. - A serious fire broke out on the Cunard steamer Car mania, lying at her dock. The fire was confined to the saloon quarters which were practically destroyed. The damage is estimated at many thou. sands of dollars. The hull was not ln jured. The origin of the Are is not known. The scheduled sailing of the Car mania, June 4, has been cancelled. The Carmanta had a narrow escape frem total destruction. The flames towered above the bridge and smoke poured from every aperature amid ships. At one time volumes of smoke arose from six different points, so rap idly did the flames work from cabin to cabin. Several tugs came to the assistance of the Bremen and so much water was poured Into the vessel that she listed heavily and was prevented from capsizing only by her moorings.
