Very few people would believe that thia

bnt from the article the proofs are evi
dent. Toe elory reads as follows:
“An interesting discussion recently
arose in Flathead county as to the possi
bility of raising tobacco in Miontana, and
an artiole in the Weetern Newe hue
brought to light the fact that for come
time pact the farmers of that section
have been raising tobacco for their owa
use, and that furthermore they consider
the extensive raising of the plant quite
feasible. To a southerner it may eeem
preposterous to think of the tobaeoo
plant thriving in Montana, bnt neverthe
less it does.
“As for instance it is cited that Joseph
Oarriveau, who owns a very fine farm on
the north side of the Kootenai river, baa
been raising tobacco for a number of
years. Moreover, he has. successfully
eared and manufactured the plants into
fragrant ha van as
“John O. D. Ross, for years a placer
miner on Libby creek, baa also experi
men ted along thia line and hae on bis
farm some as good specimens of the to
bacco plant in Montana have been oiled,
and future development of this industry
may undonbt edly be looked for.”
