MEACHER COUNTY PAIR AND OLD SETTLERS BAY, HARLOWTON, AUGUST 22, 23, 24 AND 29. The Harlo wton e. The Continuation d TIS Musselshell News VOL. 5. IIARLOWTON. MEAGIHER COUNTY, MONTANA, FRIDAY, JUNE 23, 1911 No. 52 THE BIG CIRCUS COMING The Yankee Robinson Show Will be in Harlowton On July 7th. The Ringling Bros., in an inter view in New York in April of this year, made the statement that they owe their success to the great est of all showmen, Yankee Robin son. For two seasons the Ring ling show endeavored to pilot their show on the sea of circusdom but met with disaster each time and wended their way back to Baraboo. Finally Yankee Robinson took the then young Ringling Bros. up and with the Yankee Robinson & Ring ling Bros. Show made a success. This continued for some time, final ly Yankee Robinson and the Ring. ling separating. Today these two mammoth shows continue to rule the world of circusdom and each one is credited with having the best circus performance and men agerie carried with tented organiz ations. Both shows are still on friendly terms, each one contented with the territory alloted them each season. The only possible friction between the two big shows is during the winter months when some big foreign act is desired by each show. The Yankee Robin son Shows has the Ringlings best ed in this regard, having formed an alliance with the great vaude ville interests of the country and having the only high-class vaude ville house operated on the big circuit. However the early friend ship of those two shows is so strong that Ringlings are loaned many features not desired by the Yankee Robinson Shows; for in stance, the Patty troupe, now the big feature of the Ringling show, was exhibited by the present man agement of the Yankee Robinson Shows two seasons prior to the Ringling engagement. Both shows are better equipped than ever this season. There is no truth in the report that both shows will com bine for the Seattle Exposition, statements to the contrary not withstanding. One of the Never Failing Assets Back of Merino County-Third Cutting of Alfalfa in the Fertile Musselshell OUR PIANO CONTEST IS MEETING WITH APPROVAL Interest in the voting contest for the Krause pianos which the News-and the Harlowton Grocery company inaugurated on the ninth of this month is increasing, and, while the votes show but very lit tle change from last week we learn that several of the contest ants have already secured a num ber of votes which they will depos it in the very near future. Sever al of the candidates, we under stand, are holding back their votes for the presumed purpose of keep ing the other candidates in dark ness as to their standing. We look for a large vote next week. Altogether a total of 17 contest ants are now in the field and from A COMMUNICATION By chance my attention was Balled to a little article in the Meagher County Republican, published at White Sulph ur Springs, Montana, referring to the women of Nihill, and as I am one of them I take a few minutes to answer the same. It seems the writer of the article, on account of living so long in that "little-out-of-the-wdy hamlet," on the ninety-cent railroad, or for some other reason, has never heard that wom en have, under certain conditions, the right of suffrage in Montana. Section 468 on page 9 of tte Elect ion Laws of the State of Montana is as follows: "Women Tax Payers-Upon all questions submitted to the vote of the tax payers of the state or any political divi sion thereof, women who are tax payers and possessed of the qualification for the right of suffrage required of men by the state constitution, equally with men, have the right to vote." This being a law of the state, includes Meagher county and Nihill webelieve, butpossibly not White Sulphur Springs. Yes, we would advise the people from that little hamlet to come to Nihill and "get wise;" and while here they might, by way of diversion, take a ride on a railroad which runs four passenger trains daily without the necessity of waiting for someone to chase around and gather up twenty fares. The writer made a pretty good guess when she said that maybe we want a brand new court house; we certainly do, and what is more we intend to have one, and when we want advice as to securing the same, we will go to someone compe tent to give it, and it is a cinch that. it wont be the Meagher County Republican which seems to care nothing for law nor for the rights of any of the citizens of Meagher county out side of White Sulphur Springs. ONE OF THE WOMEN OF NIHILL. n. -4m4in4Ein4W the indications each will do her level best to secure the grand prize Nearly all of them have visited the store, the Ilarlowton Grocery com pany, and examined the piano and all are loud in their praises of the instrument. HARLOWTON TEAM HAS THOUSAND PER CENT The ball game Sunday between Ilarlowton and Hedgesville was the nearest approach to profession al ball ever seen on the home dia mond. The two teams are evenly matched in strength. The game Thursday served to pit both teams on mettle, Ilarlowton to hold what they had won, Iledgesville to re Irieve what they had lost. The day was ideal and no more ent hu siastic crowd ever turned out to do honor to t he gladiators of t he diamond. Ilarlowton by timely hitting secured two runs in the early part of the game while lledgesville at two stages of the game had the bases full with only one out. But the Hlarlowtonites would close up on both flanks and center and there was nothing do ing for the visitors. The game ended with the score, two to noth ing in favor of Ilarlowton. Hedges ville has a team that any town in the state might well be proud of. and though we loyally support the ioime team we will always welcome the Hledgesville boys to Hlarlowton. COUNTY FAIR IS THE NEXT Premium List About Ready And Preparation Work Being Pushed. The executive committee and Secretary J. H. Whalen of the Meagher County Fair Association have been hard at work for the past week and the preliminary work of the fair is rapidly round ing into shape. The programs are almost completed and will be ready for the printers in a short time. From the present outlook the fair this year will be one of the best county fairs in the state. While the date is a month in advance of last year and will prevent the ex hibiting of some mature agricultur al products, the season is much in advance of a year ago and the dis play of farm and garden products will furnish an excellent exhibition of the agricultural resources of Meagher county. The executive committee have formulated plans for raising funds that should appeal to every resi dent of the county that is inter ested in its progress and develop ment.
