Accuracy and efficiency arc quali ties very much needed in the social organism. Business men complain of the lack of these qualities in the products of the schools. Making some allowances for the probability that business men often expect too much of inexperienced youth and forget how slowly they themselves became skillful through many fail ures, it is still likely that our educa tional methods are defective in the matter of training pupils to be accu rate in observation, in expression, in computations and in drawing con clusions. Those who complete a school course ought to be sure of something and efficient in doing. They should know what they know and know that they arc ignorant of what they do not know. The vague ness of the acquirements of many products of the schools is such that the possessors make guesses without mental scruples or apprehensions. It is safe to say as much as this in the way of suggesting a remedy, quality in education should never be sacri ficed to quantity. Carelessness should never be tolerated in tho class room, either in speech or act or thought. Mental alertness should be cultivated and made a habit. Subscribe for the Pioneer, $1.50 per year.
