The members of the com pany, among them a number of young ladies that were fair to look upon, got out of their car and carried on a social game of ball, during which bewitch ing operation they were watched with breathless interest l y all the bald heads in Livingston. Current reports are that the force in the railroad shops here is to be short ly augmented by thirty or forty men and that an additon of several stalls is to be built to the round-house. We cannot say whether the reports are or are not correct, but following so close upon the Jong visit of Air. Cushing, superintendent of motive power, mJ chinery and rolling stock, they are the re\erse of improbable. When here Mr. Cushing had nothing to say on the subject. It is understood that among a few some objection has been raised to the use of Landt's summer garden in con nection with the Fourth of July exer cises. We are at a loss to understand the basis of any such objection. No beer or intoxicants of any kind will be sold or given away at the garden on that day and no admission will be charged. \Ve know of no more suit able location in every respect,and con sider that those who have the arrange ments in charge are fortunate in se curing it for the purpose. E. V. Smalley, the talented journal ist and magazine writer, was on the west-bound train yesterday. He is now going to the Flathead lake coun try, which will be the subject of an article from his pen shortly after in the Century. The article will be ill ustrated from photographs to be ta ken by F. Jay Haynes, who will-join Air. Smalley in a few days. After the high water subsides the same two gentlemen will go down the course of the Upper Missouri, and the magnifi cent scenery of that region will be transcribed by the pen of the one and the camera of the other for publica tion in the Century. Cornelius Hennessy, indicted for grand larceny in connection with Morris Cook and the others who raided the opium den, was found guilty of petit larceny, and will prob ably be sentenced to a light fine and a short term in the county jail. It is said that Hennessy 's case was given to the jury when the performance at the circus was getting very close and that the majority of the jury hastily agreed with the minority on a verdict or petit larceny so that they could all go to the circus. The others of the party, Fred Heed, Ed. Runner and Gase, will not be tried till next term. The Livingston Enterprise, of June 13, boastfully asserts that peas were in blossom at that berg. Why, my dear sirs, we had peas on the mar ket here on the lOUi. There is no use of the upper country trying to vie with lower Yellowstone matters. Its out of the question, because they haven't got the "sile."—Glendive Times. Livingston has had peas in the market during a month or more past but they were not grown in the open air nor were those of which the Times speaks; they were forced in hot-beds. Wrenshall. superintendent of track and bridges, went west yester day to investigate the causes of the recent accidents and detentions on the road west of here. James Thompson, of Thompson Bros., left to-day for Chicago and the east'on a trip in which business will be combined with pleasure. He will be gone about three weeks, He has cer tainly earned a vacation. E. R. Murlin. a staff correspondent of the New York Tribune, accom panied E. Y. Smalley westward yes terday. He is taking a run into Mon tana between conventions. He re ported the proceedings of the repub lican bear-garden and will do like for the democrats. Miss Annie Mintie returned on Sat urday from attending the ladies' sem inary at Faribault, Alinn. The ac count of the commencement exercises of the school as published in St. Paul papers shows that Miss Mintie closed lier first year at Faribault with hon ors. She is accompanied by her cousin Miss Russell of Hutchinson, Kansas, who will spend the long summer va cation in Livingston as the guest of M iss Alintie and her narents. SPECIAL MENTION.
