No locality is exempt, no race is Illumine. The Indian and negro races are especially susceptible td it, while the na tives of the liijrh altitudes of the Alps and Andes suffer lcast. It is especially preva lent in crowded cities, -where every facility fonts dlsseminatiou exists. Measures are being taken to stamp out tlie disease as rapidly as possible by making it unlaw ful for any one to expectorate in a public place, anil by placing tuberculosis among tlie infectious diseases to be controlled by the boards of health. In tlie treatment of this malady the direct application of medicine to the seat of disease together with good food, tonics, sunshine and fresli air give the best results. Nemo 1 am constantly annoyed by a twitching, mmib, burning sensation under my right shoulder blads. It is not painful, but uncomfortable. "What is it, and what will put a stop to it? From your description I judge it to be a local nervous condition, or "neural, anaes thesia." Rub the spot occasionally with chloroform liniment. If that does not stop it, have it touched occasionally with an electrode. Mrs. AV. B. There are several Institutions in this city which you could attend. The term of service varies from one to two years. The supply is always equal to the demand. X.lly Eastman Is face powder injurious to the skin? Face powders cause the skin to become rough. Mr. Edmunds, Md. I am becoming bald from continual falling out of the hair, which seems to be dry and harsh. Is there any way to stop it? When the ludr follicles atrophy there is no way of slopping the falling out of tlie hair. If it is due to dandruff it can be remedied by washingthe scalp with tincture of greensotp, 3 ounces, bay rum, 1 ounce, and 10 drops of oil of lavender. Dry and apply tea drop of cantor oil and two drops tincture cantharides. Motorman I have a bad case of catarrh of the head. My nose is usually dry and crusty. Ciinnot smell very well, unless I first use salt water spray. You have atrophic rhinitis, and should receive special treatment. In meantime, keep parts clean with a solution or boracic acid, 20 grains; glycerine, 1 dram; 11s terine, 1 ounce; tincture of kino, 1-2 dram, and distilled water enough to make 3 ounces. The lectures will all be free. The World of Business The war in Wall street against the bucket shops, which have multiplied in New York and throughout thu country of late, has culminated In a notice sent out by the officers of the exchange to the Western Union Telegraph Company, tliat the con tract with the Gold and Stock Telegraph Company, a branch of the Western Union Company, will not be renewed on June ?0, when it expires. The bucket shops have been a thorn in the flesh of the stock exchange for a long time past, and have rankled more and more this past winter. It is said to be a fact Hint the former customers of the commission houses, mem bers of the exchange, are to a lare extent doing their business now witli the bucket shops, and that in reality the stock ex change business is being cut all to pieces and will soon almost have vani-hed alto gether. The Western Union Company, through the Gold and Stock Company, the governing committee of the stock exchange asserts, has persisted in supplying the bucket shops or the country with quota tions over the tickers controlled by the Gold and Stock Company. It Is also asserted by the stock exchange that at the same time the ticker quota tloui are furnished the proprietors of the bucket shops are also furnished an express telegraph service, giving them an ad vantage of two or three minutes over their customers. Asthebucketshops executeno orders, but take the trade, they have an advantage over the customers. Whether all this is so or not, and every trader In Washington knows nil about this matter, it is the opinion of experts that the stock exchange Is running up against a pretty stiff thing, and that i t will come outIoHr. Wall street isvery cynical. If it will ever occur that anyone desiring the ticker service need be without it there seems no waj- to prevent it. However the effect on Western Union stock will probably be bad for a short time, traders ay. Business nt the stock exchange yester day was moderately active, tlie sales ag gregating 103,000 shares in the course of the two hours of the short session. The course of the market was irregular, how ever, and indecisive. At the end of the day prices weie about as they were at the opeaing. It is the opinion of experts that tomorrow morning may see a decline, perhaps not a very large one, and that for a day or so the bear hide of the market will be tlie most profitable one. This is simply in the way of reaction fiom thu advanced prices, and does not necessarily .mean anything more. A break of about a point in Jersey Cen tral was the feature of the initial trading, this led to a slight reaction in the general list. There are a variety of minors in regard to the dividend from Jersey. It is asserted that It will be reduced to -t per cent at the next meeting. Moore & Schley are among the sellers of this stock. .New York Central was one of the 6trong featincs of the market. After the first re action ycstciday it moved up to 1C0 1-4. There are reports, and apparently well founded, that the scheme for refunding the company's indebtedness is making piogress. It Is understood that the banking syndicate having the matter in charge will agree to float a $75,000,000 one hundred-year gold bond, bearing 3 1-2 per cent, and that holders of the old indebtedness will be offered the privilege of conversion. Rugar was heavy yesterday, falling to 113 5-8. The cause of the decline was. of course, rumors of an adverse tariff. Whether these rumors were put out by the sugar people or not is of no particular consequence. It is certain that the Havc mcyers are very shrewd gentlemen, and it seems most probable that they would not care to have Sugar booming while the tariff is being adjusted. The Burplus icservc shows a imilnr contrac tion, the loss for the Vjek, $1,091,375, bringing the excess casitln the banks to .$1S,ICS,705, widely itivcr nine mil lions less than was reported three weeks ago. '$ '- The movement which resulted in these sudden payments into the custom-houe on the part of importers lias apparently run Its course. As it neccfsitatcd borrowing in nearly the same amount as the payment or duties, a concspondmg increase was looked for In the loan total, butthcincrcnsc as shown by the statement was only $-157,-D00. The only inference, therefore. Is that there has been considerable liquidation in other loans. Since the 1st of Marcli tlie loan expan sion has been $8,759,000, but as $6,000. 000 at least must have been added to thH sum last week, the contraction in other outstanding loans appears plain. The banks .are still decreasing their circula tion, the reduction of $25S,400 last week making a total contraction or $4,308, 300 since December L7. This is an unprecedented decline, but the necessity nnd advisability of such a course are not to be disputed, when the congestion of the local money market is taken into consideration.
