TIIE LOVELESS BRIDE. '
BY CLARE.
I saw her at the altar
With Jewels on her brow,
"With gems tipon her pearly arms,
And on her breast of snow. "
- - i
I heard the vows that bound her,
Unloving, to his side,
And saw her proud lips curl in scorn,
As he stooped to greet his bride.
Three years have passed I see the bride,
As jewels deck her brow ;
But rose-buds fair and beautiful,
- Twine round her forehead now.
And o'er her pulseless bosom strewn
Are flowers, pure and white ;
And the hands are meekly folded,
And the eyes are closed in night.
They laid her in a vaulted tomb,
No flowers above her wave,
And though her life was blighted,
She found a peaceful grave.
They tell a story about a man out West who
had a hair Hd. udou which he performed an op
oration himself, by inserting into the opening
a piece of chicken flesh it aUucreu ana nuca
up the space admirable. This was well enough,
until in compliance with the prevaling fashion
be attempted to raise moustaches, when one
aide grew hair and the other feathers.
A magistrate asked an Irishraau whom he
was questioning :

"Iver seen the say, your honor ! Be jabers,
an'doesyer honor suppose that I was tlirun
died all the way over the salt ocean in a wheel
barrow ?"
' A druggist sent his Irish Porter into a dark
cellar; soon after hearing a noise, he went to
the opening and cried out :
"Patrick, keep your eyes skinned !"
'Och ! the divil an eye," roared Pat, "but
it's my nose that's skin't entirely."
In the street of Leicester, one day, Dean
Swift was accosted by a drunken weaver, who,
staggering against his reverence, said :
"I have been spinning it out."
Yes," said Dean, "I see yon have and now
you are reeling it home."

GREAT DISCOVERY OF TIIE AGE.
IMPORTAXT TO TOBACCO CUEWERS.
I)r. Gustav Linnard's Taste Restorative Troches,
the Great Substitute for Tobacco. It is a well
known and incontrovertable fact that the use of
Tobacco is the promoting cause of many of the
most severe MEXTAL AND PHYSICAL disorders
to which the race of man is subject, as cureful an
alasis and long and painful experience have clear
ly proven that it contaiasccrtain narcotic and poi
sonous properties most dangerous in their efforts,
which by entering into the blood derange the
functions and operations of the Heart, causing ma
ny to suppose that organ to be seriously diseased.
TOBACCO affects also she entire nervous system,
manifesting itself as all who have ever used the
noxious weed will bear testimony in Lassitude.
Xervous Irritability, Water Brash. Dyspepsia, and
many other disorders of a similar character. The
'Taste Restorative Troches" arc designed to coun
teract these baneful influences, and have proved
completely successful in a multitude of cases, and
wherever used. Being harmless in themselves
they exert a beneficial effect upon the entire sys
tem, restoring the Taste which has bocomo vitia
ted or destroyed by great indulgence, complete
ly removing the irritation and accompanying tick
ling sensation of the Throat which are always
consequent upon abstaining from the use of To
bacco, and by giving a healthy tono to the Stom
ach, invigorate the whole system.
Persons who are irretrievably undermining
their constitutions and shortening their lives,
should use these Troches immediately and throw
off the injurious and unpleasant habit of Tobacco
Chewing.
These Troches or Lozenges are put up in a con

cents per Box. A liberal discount to the Trade.

CA CARD FROM DR. JAMES M. JAR
RETT, .OF THE NEW-YORK LUXG IN
FIRMARY. My connection for the past eight
years with the above Institution, as Chief Physi
cian, and a twelve years' courscof steady devotion
to the Cure of Pulmonary Consumption nd its
kindred diseases. togther with my unrivalled op
portunities and advantage of pathological research
aided not a little by a perfect system of Medicai
Inhalation has enabled me to arrive at a deci
sive, direct, and successful course of treatment for
the positive and radical cure of all diseases of the
Throat, Lungs, and Air-passages. By Inhalation,
the vapor and curative properties of medicines are
directly addressed to the diseased organs of the in
tegument. I do not advise the use of Medical In
halation of any kind, to the exclusion of general
treatment ; and although I consider it a useful ad
juvant in the proper management of those foarful
and often fatal diseases, yet I deem it very neces
sary that each patient should have the benefit of
both general and local treatment. The success of
my treatment in the above diseases, and the high
character of the Institution over which I have so
long had the honor to preside, are too well known
to need any eulogy or comment from me. At tho
solicitation of many private and professional
friends, through whose philanthropic aid the above
charity has been long and liberally supported and
after due consideration, 1 have concluded to make
such arrangements as will bring the benefits of my
experience and treatment within the reach of all,
and not confine myself, as heretofore, to those on
ly who entered the Infirmary, or who were able to
visit me at my oCiee. Hoping therefore that the
arrangement will give entire satisfaction, both to
my professional brethren and the public, I would
respectfully annonnce in conclusion, that I can
now Le consulted perxonaJly or by letter, on all dis
eases as above, and that the medicines, the same as
used in the Institution, prepared to suit each in
dividual case. Inhaling Vapors. Medical Inha
lers, ire., d)-e , will be forwarded by express to any
part of the United States or the Canadas. Terms
My terms of treatment by letter are as follows,
viz: S12 per month for each patient, which will
include medicine sufficient for one month's use;
also, Inhaling Vapor, and an Inhaling Apparatus.
Payment as follows : $5 to be paid to Express A
gent on receipt of the box of Medicine, and the
balance So at the expiration of the month, if the
patient be cured or is entirely satisfied with the
treatment. Patients, by giving a full history of
theircaso, and their symptoms in full, can be treat
ed as well by letter as by personal examination.
Patients availing themselves of Dr. Jarrett s treat
ment may rely upon immediate and permanent
relief, as he seldom bas to treat a case over thirty
days. Letters for advice promptly answered. For

v:anting I'arms in a healthy place. Ii.-:ut:-fii-e
tniet from Philadelphia, on the Camden and At
lantic Railroad, New Jersey. An old estate has
recently been opened for sale, and the first divi
sion of 10.000 acres divided up into farms of 20 a
crts and upwards. The soil is of tlie best quality
for tho production of fruits, grains. Ac. The price
is S-15 to S20 per acre, payable in easy quarter
yearly instalments, within a term of four'ycars,
with interest. The terms are made easy, in'order
to insure the rapid improvement of the land, by
enabling every industrious man to buy a farm. It
is now being extensively improved by good roads,
and some of the best citizens from New England
aud the Middle States are erecting largo improve
ments. It is a sceno of the greatest improvement
out of Philadelphia Seventy-five houses have
been built in 4 mouths. lractical farmers and bu
siness men from the length and breadth of the U
nion are settling there. It is an important busi
ness place, on account of its being in the midst of
a great market. Every article raised on this land
finds an immediate salo. The water 13 excellent,
and no such thing as fever is known. The soil is
a sandy or clay loam, with a clay bottom and re
tentive, of manures. It is free of stones and easily
worked. It abounds largely in the phosphates,
and such is its fertility that from the crops pro
duced both upon this land and the area adjoin
ing under cultivation, it will be found not to bo
excelled anwhere in the production of crops most
adapted to its market. The reader may be well
aware that the earliest and the best fruits and veg
etables come from New Jersey, which are annual
ly exported to the amount of millions of dollars.
Tho laud, besides being accessible in every way
for fertilizers, has an abundant supply of the best
quality of muck manure.
Lumber and building materials can be had on
the spot at a cheap price, from the mills Other
mills are now being opened, aud brickyards being
started on the ground. A person can put up a
franio tenement for present convenience for one
hundred dollars. On account of the extensive em
igration, this is tho best course to pursuo in order
to get a place to live in at first. Carpenters and buil
dersareon hand to put up houses on the best terms.
In settling here tho emigrant has many advan
tages. He is w ithin a few hours' ride of the great
cities in the Middle States and Xcw England ; he
is near his old friends and associations; he is in a
settled country, wh to every improvement and
aomfort of civilization is at hand ; he is in a heal
thy place, and is not subject to the certainty of
losing the greater part of his family and his own
health by those malignant fevers which make the
graves of so many millions of tho young and har
dy in far off regions away from home and friends.
Besides, he has a mild climate and an open winter.
There are three trains daily to Philadelphia,
and to all those who improve, the railroad compa
ny gives a free ticket.
The reader will at once be struck with tho ad
vantages here presented, and ask himself why the
property has not been taken up before. The rea
son is, it was never thrown in the market ; and un
less these statements were correct no one would be
invited to examine the land before purchasing.
This all are expected to do. 1 hey will see the land
under cultivation ; they will meet persons, no
doubt, from their own neighborhood ; they will
witness the improvements, and can judge of the
character of the population. Persons should come
prepared to purchase, as many are locating, and
locations aro not held on refusal. t
The Hammonton Farmer, a monthly literary
and Agricultural sheet, containing full information
of Hammonton, will be sent to each inquirer, and
can be obtained at 25 cents per annum.
