Supreme Court, "Judge" Underwood will
be compelled to give up tho Cne mansion

self for a mere tithe of its value. There
are a few thousand Northern Rads. who
ought to. be served in a similar manner.
Peruvian Strup. This valuable medi
cine has been silently making its way into
public favor by the numerous remarkable
curesit hai performed. Its singular efficacy
is owing to the prodoxide of Iron, which
remains unchanged in this preparation and

we bear people complaining of the bad con
dltion oF the roads. This, however, is
owing, mainly to the almost constant rain
. during the month of May. The Super
visors of the different townships will, we
we doubt not, soon check these uiuruiuriugs,
by immediate repairs, and we can then lis
ten to a taore pleasant story, for a local
item, from our neighboring friends.
a. The "Whiskey Brigade" is likely to
be increased in numbers. We notice that
several recruits, among the Republicans, are
in process of private Uaiuing. Ihisisnot
strictly in accordance with the rules of the
"Brigade." The veterans of this famous
corps do their work openly no drinking
"behind the door."
Temperance is not promoted by this pri
vate drinking.
9&P We have many excellent stores in
Bloomsburg, largo and small, but for neat
ness In taste in the way of selections, and
for dieapness, wo call attention to the store
of our neighbor, 0. C. Marr, in Shives
Block. Be has just received a fresh stock
of groceries and other goodx, and those who
wish to be waited on by a true gentleman,
and t buy goods at lowest prices, will do
well to call at bis place. He will bo glad to
show his goods "without money end with
out prioc."
The Fourth. The people of Fishing
creek design to celebrate the coming Fourth
of July in an appropriate and "old fashion
ed way,'-' in tho Grovo near by tho public
house of Mr. Ematidus - Uunngat They
will have, as the important part of the pro
gramme in the Grove, epcechttB, patriotic
songs, and an excellent dinner; and in the
evening tho young will enjoy themselves by
tripping tho ftutastic toe. Music by tho
Oraugovillo Brass Band. It will no doubt
be a gal-a day for the citisons of the whole
up creek country. They know how and do
get up good celebrations. ,
S9F Supervisor Billmycr, with several
teams and quite a number of laborers, is
actively engaged in repairing, grading, and
cleaning up the street and alleys of Blooms
burg. While he meets with some oppo
sition, from Ihe fogies who desire to have
everything as "dady had it," he appears to
have adopted Davy Crocket's motto "be sure
yon are right and then go ahead." Whon
the citisens of Bloom elected Mr. Billmyer
to the office of Supervisor they felt assured
that he would be the last man that would
act in an unfavorable manner, or turn his
Uek, at this time, to the beauty, thrift and
enterprise of .the town ; and they are real
ist the fact that their confidence baa not

Fields of Dock. Tho root of the yel
low dock, so troublesome to farmers, is an
effectual altorative and a most valuable
medicine. In the neighborhood of Lowell,
Dr. J. C. Aycr & Co. have planted fields
of it, whore they raise many tons at a crop.
It is grown liko the carrot or beet, in drills,
and its quality or properties have bten much
improved by cultivation It is ono of the

are informed tbo extraordinary virtues of
this preparation are largely due to tho
extract of this root that it contains. The
Sarsaparilla root, used by this firm, isgrown
on plantations of their own, in Honduras,
to secure an article of superior and wholly

universally acknowledged superiority of
