Another Old-Timer Passes On
Mr. James (1, West, who was re
ported lu a critical condition of
health lu last week's issue, died Fri
day night, May 8, at the home of his
niece, Mrs. James Taylor.'
Funeral services wore held in tho
First Ward chapel Monday, May 11,
Hlshop James T. Gardner presiding.
Appropriate remarks were made 'by
Boveral speakers. Music was fur
nished by tho First Ward choir.
The following Is a short biography
of Mr. West's life, read nt tho funeral

JiitncH 0. West was born July 4,
1836, In Kugland. He was baptized
Into tho Church of Jesus Christ of
I.atter-Day Saints n't Fast Dean, Hug
laud, about March 1, 1SG5, by K. John
Cook. Ho emigrated to New York,
May 1, 18C8, and was there ordained
a priest by Klder Searle. He camo to
Suit Lake City, July 18, 1871, receiv
ing his endowments in the Temple
tho same year. On April --, IKi.'t, ho
had scaled to him More)' C. West and
Emma 0. West. Through his faith
fulness and Integrity he wna promot
ed from the lesser to the higher do
grco in tho priesthood of God. He
went on a mission to the Indian Ter
ritory in 1880, laboring there about
seven months, and through sickness
ho was honorably released by Presi
dent John Taylor to return homo.
During his sojourn liere -in tho
Vallles of the Mountains ho made his
homo lu Salt I.ako City, 1'rovo, Hcbcr
and American Fork. Wherever ho
has lived ho has always been u zeal
ous and faithful promoter of tho causo
of Christ, never being ashamed of tho
Gospel and ovor ready to btjar his

After a long, useful, studious and
progressive life, Brother West passed
away, May 8, 1914, to enjoy the do
llclous fruits of his honest labors and
a well spent life.

Mr. Hickman went In an auto and was

Delta they motored through Holden,
Fillmore, Kanosh, and then back up
through Juab, l.evan and Nephl, arriv
ing here Tuesday evening.

They also visited the dry farms on
the Levnu nidge, which are about on
