Beechcrs Beliei
Chicago 24LaEt Sunday Rev J
Spencer Kennard pastor of tie Fourth
Baptist Church took occasion of Rev
Henry Ward Beechera presence in this
city to deliver a pleasantly termed ser
mon combatting tbe views of the great
Brooklyn divine Tomorrow the papers
will publish a breezy brotherly letter
from Bcecher to Brother Kennard It is
perhaps tbe most unequivocal statement
of Beechers views yet mado public He
I says he knows he is orthodox and evan
gelical as to the facts and substance of
tbe Christian religion and knows equally
well that he is not orthodox a9 to the
philosophy which has hitherto been
applied to these facts He calls himself
a cordial Christian evolutionist but does
not agree with the agnosticism of Spencer
Huxley and Tyndall He believes the
m mal part of man evIved from beings
below Dim while in spiritual nature he
is the son of God Man he say is not
sinful by nature but voluntarily He
does not believe in the fall of Adam nor
the inheritance of his guilt Dr Ken
nard dined with Bcecher this evening
