AFTER THE BLACKGUARD
To the Editor of THE HERALD
The Tribune has come out in a respecta
ble new dress and in its morning issue has
well said The press is steadily advanc
ing The Tribune has made a marked ad
vancement in appearance for instead of
the old blue rag which would hardly bear
its own weight we have now presented to
the readers of that paper a rather neat
looking sheet of eight pages and almost as
large as THE HERALD What a pity with
the greatly added expense of that paper
and its improved appearance that the
change could not be thorough and radical
but I see the same old tendency to untruth
fulness and misstatement which have
nearly always characterized the editors of
the paper The old saw is still a trite one
A leopard cannot change its spots nor a
rhinosceros its skin The scribe who at
tended the quarterly conference yesterday
says that Elder Hintze intimated that the
saints would some day all gather at Jerusa
lem
No Mr Editor Elder Hintze never in
ferred anything of the kind for as a Mor
mon elder and preacher of the gospel no
one knows better than Elder H that
America is the gathering place for the
saints and always will be
Then the scribe on the new dress sa s
and I presume alluding to his own original
idea that the saints are going to gather to
Palestine They cant go too soon Too
I
soon for what Cant go too soon to suit
the American gentlemen too soon to suit
the Liberal party whom they represent
Now please Mr Editor let me say
through your fair columns the Latterday
Saints have no intention of moving to Pal
estine or any other foreign country but
that the territory of Utah and In fact all of
America is to them their promised land
And please Mr Tribune do not insist upon
the saints going to Palestine They are
not hunting for a location in any land away
from the great American continent the
land of Joseph the land of Brigham the
land of the latterday prophets the land
where once was situated the garden of
Eden and on which our first parents dwelt
No no the saints will never as a people
locate anywhere outside of the American
continent however much the unchanged
in heart Tribune may wish it
