Pacihc Short Line news is scarce in
fact there is nothing to be said farther
than that no one in Ogden knows anything
about the company or its affairs or whether
t there isany intention of building the line
through from Sioux City to Ogden at
V present Its strange but true that in all
these great paper railroad schemes the con
struction work always is begun at Uthe
other end of the line
Professor L D Edwards who for six
years past has taught music in the public
BChjools of this city has accented an offer
to go to Salt Lake and practice his pro
fession in that city The majority of
O dens people will read this announce
ment with regret and it will be difficult if
not impossible to convince them that any
new man however proficient as a musi
cian can acceptably fill Professor Ed
wards place Salt Lake is winner in this

At 130 yesterday afternoon the Liberal
band stationed themselves in front of the
Knights of Pythias hall and played a tune
or two while the uniform rank formed for
a march to the depot At the Broom hotel
corner a halt was made and the grand
lodge fell into line then they proceeded to
the train and were off for Syracuse Tho
excursion was not a brilliant success ow
ing to the failure of the committee charge
to properly advertise it Those who did at
tend enjoyed their outing to the fullest ex
tent although the weather was not as
favorable as it might have been
Scores of temporary structures designed
to serve the purpose of feeding places for
the expected multitude of people during
carnival week arc being erected on Union
and Tabernacle squares and on vacant lots
on Twent fourth and Twentyfifth streets
If the grocers and provision dealers lay in
sufficient stocks it will probably be found
that Ogden can provide food and lodging
for all who may come though there should
be 50000 of them which is not at all prob
able but even 10000 hungry people can du
your lots of grub and it will be well for
t our citizens to lay in an extra supply as
