Members of the United States senate
committee on irrigation and reclamation
ot arid lands who are now looking over
varIous reclamation projects in the west
ern states will reach Salt Lake today
and plans already have been made for
their entertainment during the oneday
stay here
Senator George Sutherland who Is a
member of the committee left for Provo
yesterday to meet them and escort them
to this city The committee that will
look after the congressional visitors dur
Ing their stay In Salt Lake will Include
Governor William Spry
Senator Thomas H Carter ot Montana
Is chairman ot the committee which Is
made up principally of the senators from
western states In which the Irrigation
projects are located
Members ot the committee left Den
ver Sunday night and have occupied the
time since In looking over some of the
Colorado Projects
All ot the committee are enthusiastic
over the projects Into which they have
looked during the last few weeks and
It Is said that the east Is awakening
to the possibilities which will result from
the reclamation projects and will support
measures at the coming session ot con
gress for the development of the western
states through his mehod
The members of the committee will
leave Salt Lake Thursday noon for Ne
vada and will continue on their way to

COMING TO SALT LAKE

Lyric Theatre Night of
Nov 12
The Shuberts have secured their open i
Ing In Salt Lake After sparring for this
opening for some time through their
representative Howard Garrett they
have finally arranged to put their line
ot shows In the Lyric theatre In this
city The opening bill will be present
ed on the night of Nov 12
York was commenced yesterday under
the direction ot Max Florence In remod
eling the theatre and placing It In the
best possible shape for the coming of
the Shubert attractions Mr Florence Is
under bond to have the remodeling work
completed by Saturday night A number
ot workmen were engaged at this work
yesterday and the force will be In
creased today To make sure that the
theatre will be completed In time a
force ot men will work both day and
night
The poInt upon which the coming of
the Shuberts hinged was whether or not
they could furnish enough shows to make
the proposition of leasing a theatre here
a paying one It Is understood that they
have agreed to furnish shows for four
nights a week In the event that open
dates occur on Saturday and Sunday
nights moving picture shows will he op
erated For some months past moving
picture shows have been given at the
Lyric under the management ot Max

The reading of Trelawney of the
Yells the play which will be presented
by the University Dramatic club this year
was given Monday afternoon In the as
sembly room The largest gathering of
students ever present at the reading of
a play was present and the prospects
for a successful season are bright
At the meeting of the senior class held
Monday afternoon the challenge present
ed by the University faculty for a foot
all game the coming Friday was ac

or the game and promise to give thE

time in mill work and has Invented two
concentrating devices His absence from
the teaching corps will be greatly missed
by the members of the engineering school
He will leave shortly to join his family

Judge C W Morse has been selected
as II new professor In the law depart
ment His subject will be Property

rado states that that school on account
of lack of funds will not be able to meet
the University team this year in debate
Members of the French circle will meet
Thursday afternoon to complete the or
ganization of the French circle and to
arrange for entertainments to be given
the coming year
