Special to The HerI11dRlpubli
RchfJeJd 11 16The town of Elsi
fore six miles south of this place was
visited by the largest fire in the history of
the communlt thIs morning four frame
houses situated south of the opera house
being destroyed The fire started in the
roof of the house occupied by James
Nunley who was lying in bed suffering
from typh3id lever
When he learned that the house was on
fire Mr Xunley wrapped himself in bed
clothing and ran barefootro through the
snow for a block to the residence of a
neighbOr named Nielsen where he took
refuge Hie flight through the snow did
not seem to make him any worse
There was no vlnd blowing when the
fire starttd about S oclock and this
probably accounts for the fact that the
opera house which Immediately adjoins
the block was not burned The flames
spread from the unley house to the
others in the row one of hlch was oc
cupied by Leo Nielsen the other two
houses being vacant An four houses
were destroyed although a portion of Vu
furniture in the Nunle and Nielsen
homes was saved
The four houses wem owned by Peter
Christensen of Murray It Is s no In
urance was carried The buildings were
old onesto1 structure and the los I
not heavy Citizens formed a bucket brll
ade preventing the flames from spread

as the cutting stations at present are
swamped with beets every shed being
filled to overflowing while huge heaps
are being stacked outsIde
In Sevier and Sanpete counties ten to
fifteen tons of beets are stacked along
the railroad tracks awaiting cars to take

rhls year has been a most prosperous
one for the beetgrowers a bumper crop
having been harvested Not a single dis
trict In the state has reported a poor

output of sugar Owing to almost perfect
weather conditions only about 10 per
cent of the beets are nov In the ground
and another week will see the enUre crop

The Lehi factory Is now grinding about
