U50 a Bhare or about 50 centsa share
per annum more than Amalgamated
and It Is apparent that certain tences
are beIng strengthened with a view ot
a possIble showdown later on
A number of the directors ot this com
pany who are active In the management
arrived In New York last nIght tram a
western trip ot Inspection to the prop
crty and conterences were held today
It Is known that they hold exceeding
ly high oplnlon as to value ot Utah
Copp r and It Is considered very neces
sary that this ompany with a 60000000
pound output produced at a cost ot 8
cents a pound should be a unit In the
comblnatlon for It might carry with It
both Boston Consolidated and OhIo
C opper which would give the new com
P1nY practical control ot the output ot
the state ot Utah
On the basis ot present earnings and
tonnage It Is figured that Utah Copper
should go Into the new combination on
a valuation baSIs ot about 90 a share

Opening ot marvelously rich silver

new Eureka City company which wU
prospect for ore beneath the Eureka
City townsite the recent disclosures
upon the lowest levels o the Eagle t
Blue Bell and the discovery ot rich ore
upon the lower levels ot the Gemini

the belief that the Eureka secton ot the

With the completion ot the bIg tunnel
and the Installation of a pumping plant
which will be the largest ever used In
a Uth mine the CentennIal Eureka
company will proceed to follow the big
ore bodIes down t a point hundreds at
fet below the water level The GeminI
Mining company Is already operating
below the water level and reports from
the mine Show that the rIchest ore to be
taken from the mine In years Is com

to be similar to the rich shoot which
was found years ago upon the 1600 level
The flow ot water In the Gemini Is
giving the company but little trouble
owing to the fact that the company has

Will Develop Large Ore Shoot
Opened in Grading for a

Systematic development ot two are

Amalgamated company at Steptoe
CIty was determined upon by PresIdent
Joseph R Murdock when he vIsited
the camp a few flays ago One ot the
shoots is that exposed by grading for
the pIpe line to the Steptoe smelter
which has been ripped for the length
at about 30 feet and from 10 to 15
feet In width The work bas opened
a large body ot hIgh grade lead ore
whIch can be mined cntUI and whIch
will return handsome profits when
shIpped to the smelter A shat wUl
be sunk following the ore
The other shoot Is a continuation
at the ore bOdy first opened In the
property from whIch 100 tons ot 74
per cent lead ore were shipped sev
eral years ago I is 1 about 100 feet
south ot the shaft from which that
are was extracted proving the shoot
for that length with the prospect
that it extends much further A at
the other place a shaft will be sunk

Improvements of Last Year
Are All in Interest of
Saving
The property ot the Utah Apex Mining
company at Bingham has been inborn
paably Improved in the last year ac
cording to the statement at Managing DI
rector J W Horne who recently vis

rank A SchIrer
Extensive improvement have ben
made during the lat year properly
chargeable to capital account saId Mr
Horne when 1nterleved in Boston
These are all for fhe economical extrac

Parvenu raise 3 feet vertically tram
the Parvenu tunnel level at the top of
the raIse a very large station bas been
blasted out of the country rock its di
mensIons beIng i1 feet long 3 feet wide
and 27 feet high Here Is installed a
monter hoist or more properly speak
Ing a lowering machine for all ore on
that level and above will gO down the
raise in cages to the Parvenu tunnel
From there in the same cars It will be
trammed to the portal ot the Parvenu
tunnel where the mill ore will be emp

Connection Is there made with the new
Phoenix mill Firstclass are will be
mJ Frstlas
shipped without extra handling by a re

The saving In cost ot handling the ore
should and will I believe pay us hand

TNTC STANDARD I
i T DRIFT ON 700
Shaft Is Well Into Region of
Permanent Ore Bodies
Tis Believed
Drifting from the Tlnto Standard com
pans shaft on the iOtGot level la to
be inaugurated at once Such was the
decisIon ot Manager E J Raddat who
returned from camp yesterday after hav
Ing thoroughly Inspected the companys
workings He is confident that the shaft
Is well through the leached zone and Into
the region ot permanent ore bodies The
quartz through whIch the last r fet of
the shaft has been sunk shows Iron suI
phldes all through i It Is believed to be
wIthout question the casing ot an ore
bOdy like those found In the Centennial
Eureka mInetho formations found In the
two properties at corresponding horizons
beIng identical
Work will be centered In the driving ot
a drift southeast from the shaft t get
under the leached ore bodIes which were
encountered on the 40 level Those ore
bodies it Is believed will be found to
contaIn good values on the lower level
From the shaft to the nearest known ore
boy the distance is from 15 feet to 173
feet I Is expected to find ore when the
drift gets through the body ot quart
wherever that may be
A drift will also be run toward the
north Work ot cutting a station at the
i0 level Is In progress
STARTS DRILLING
IN TNTG MINE
Raymond Illinois Prospects for
Ore Bodies Below Its
1500 1 Level
That the dIamond or churn drill has not
long since been brought Into general use
to prospect for ore bodIes in the Tlntc
district is n surprIse to many Unes
there Is In the way ot obtaining results
from such operations sorne obstacle which
is not apparent to the layman and to
many expert as well drilling should be
particularly effective along the Colorado
SIouxIron Blossom zone
Drilling from the 1500 level ot the Ray
mond Illinois mine has just been started
The first work undertaken is In the north
drift but It Is likely that hole will be
put down several hundred feet In seve
eral places on that level Working two
shifts the drill Is making about 3 feet
a day
The prIncIpal reason for using the drill
to prospect for ore bodies In the Raymond
IllInois Is on accourt ot the flow ot wa
ter Manager J C Sullivan has long
been anxIous to sink below the lr level
but to sInk the shaft deeper would in
crease the floe to the extent Of necessi
tating the installing of pumps to care for
the water By using the drilL It will be
possible to prospect deeper without In
creasIng the flow When the ore bodies
are locate and there Is every reason to
believe that they will be the company will
be justified In sinking the main working
shaft deeper and instaJng pumps
The company expects to open the north
erly extensIons at the great ore bodies
whIch have yIelded millions ot dollars
profits to the owners of the Centennial
Eureka Eureka Hill Bullion Beck Ge
mIni and Ridge Vanev mines
PLAN T PROSPECT
GREAT NORTHEN
Ely Group With Formation Like
Rums to Be Proven
With Drills
Plans are on toot for the extensIve
prospecting ot the Grot Northern group
ot claIms lyIng a little less than a hal
mile due north of Lane City says the Ely
Expositor
The work will be done wIth core drills
and the property will be thoroughly ex
plored while the ore bodIes lying be
neath the surface will be carefully chart
ed by the company
The property which comprIses twelve
claIms lies between the Ely Resurrec
tion on which good values have ben
found and Lane City The formation ot
the Great Northern group is identical
with that In the Ruth
I was originally planned to begin the
work later in the year but begn rapId
development ot surrounding properties has
prompted the owners to push the work
ahead a few months and as a consequence
quence the drills will begin to pound theIr
way through the crust as quickly as the
winter is ended
From all indications on the property it
is believed that another huge steam shov
el proposition simIlar to that at Copper
Fiat will be opened
