LAND VERDICT CHANGED I
Department of the Interior Will Prob
ably Allow Christensen to Keep
Place
Notice was received at the local land
office Tuesday from the general land of
fice connected with the department of the
interior announcing a decision reversing
the judgment of the local register and re
ceiver in the contest case of Peter A
Hofheins against Anthon Christensen fJl
dismissing the contest
Christensen made a homestead entry on
April 22 1907 for a tract of land three
miles from Levan Juab county Hofheins
filed an affidavit of contest May 5 1909
alleging failure on Christen ens part to
establish a residence on the land
On July 21 last the register and re
ceiver of the local land office decided that
Hofheins had sustained his allegations
and recommended the cancellation of the
entry An appeal was filed on the
grounds of error and the Washington of
fice decides in favor of Christensen say
ing however that an examination will be
made before the final papers are signed
SHARP ClEARS SHERiff
Salt Lake County Sheriff Makes Cap
ture Which Will Vindicate
Davis
This will end murmurs against me in
Pasco said T V Davis of Pasco Wash
ington yesterday when he took Jack
Hulbrick alleged fugitive from justice
and bond jumper in charge at the coun
ty jail here
I Hulbrick it is said has been a fugitive
since April 261906 and in that time he bas
led Sheriff Davis a merry chase about the
country Sheriff Davis has expended sev
eral hundred dollars of his own money In
an effort to catch Hulbrick having him
self been accused by the district attorney
at Pasco with aiding Hulbrick to escape
Hulbrick has been followed through Ne
vada to California and each time Davis
says friends have aided him to escape
The return of Hulbrlck means the vindi
cation of Sheriff Davis Hulbrlck hcving
jumped a fictitious bond for 10000 It
was the jumping of this bond that led
to the sheriff being accused of conniving
I to aid the prisoner
The prisoner is a former steamship cap
I tain and is 53 years of age lIe was t r
rested in this city by Sheriff Joseph C
Sharp Sheriff Davis has obtained requi
sition papers from the governor of Wash
ington and expects to leave as soon KS the
papers are honored here
I EASIER TO PREVENT I
Most physicians are agreed that the
best way to combat moat Ills is by the
indirect method of stimulating the bodys
natural powers in fighting and destroy
tag the germs of disease Consumption
for example is much easier to prevent
than it is to cure and throughout the
land a determined warfare is being waged
to lessen the danger of infection by this
insidious disease Coughs and colds are
a prolific source and should not be neg
lected
At the first sign of a cold steps should
be taken to check it at once and this
can best be done with a simple mixture
of two ounces of Glycerine a halfounce
of Virgin Oil of Pine compound pure and
eight ounces of pure Whisky These can
be mixed together in a large bottle
Shake well and take a teaspoonful every
four hours It is claimed by the Leach
Chemical company of Cincinnati who
prepare the Virgin Oil of Pine compound
pure for dispensing through druggists
that this mixture will break up a cold
In twentyfour hours and cure any cough
that is curable

sibi ct of The Medical Profession and
Its Importance He said in part The
profession of doctor of medicine is the
most important of the professions of to
day To be a doctor in whom people can
place their trust the medical man must
have a great abundance of knowledge
With his knowledge he must have Judg
ment and skill The hygienic conditions
of our cities and towns depends upon the
medical man and I dare say that if the
medical man were given power to carry
out the cleaning of a town to his best
judgment and knowledge we would have
cleaner and better community In my
judgment the students who are preparing
to become doctors should have a course in
manual training one in fine needle work
one in moulding and one in cooking This
would give him full control of his fingers
and would enable him to prescribe better
diet for his patients
