Review of Trade
New York Dec IR G Dun
Tos Weekly Review of Trade will say
tomorrow
It is hardly to be expected that the
industrial and trade revival would con
tinue for a time at the recent high
rate of ai eed Some slowing up If
only for s breathing spell was nat
ural and this apparently Is why It is
occurring although it make no ma
terial impression upon the great vol
ume of transactions The unseasona
ble weather and the approach of the
holiday session and the time for set
tlements and taking of stock incident
to the ending of the year are largely
teaponsible for the more Quiet aspect
of business
The railroad strike in the northwest
is an unpleasant development and Its
immediate effects are chiefly felt In the
flour trade
No uneasiness is felt regarding the
lull now manifest in some branches ot
iron and steel as it is recognized that
recovery from past depression has been
phenominally rapid Moreover mills i
and furnaces have enough orders on I
their books to assure full activity for
months to come Pressure on plate
mills bays resulted from the insistent
demands of car builders who are re
ceiving a steady flow of orders from
the railroads Additional large con
tracts are expected to appear this
month and there is prospect of a short
age in shapes arid plates A large
number of receive orders are shipped
10 i bit and shoe manufacturers and
while new business is quiet many mod
erateslxed purchases make up a fair
aggregate Trade in leather has fallen
off materially but this is customary at
this season

GRAIN AND PROVISIONS I
Chicago Dec 3 Reporio 01 wet
weather In Argentina and rumors of
a settlement of the switchmens strike
caused a flurry In the wheat market
today but the advance was not main I
tained At the close prices were i
lower to HUe higher Corn closed
steady oats Arm and provisions easy
Wheat early was rather heavy ow
ing chiefly to Argentine advices which
claimed that weather In that country
was favorable for harvesting Poor
response of foreign grain markets to
yesterdays disquieting reports con
cerning a possible spread of the strike
In the northwest also tended to weaken
the market at the start There waa i
no great selling pressure however
the volume of trading being light all
day About the middle of the session
prices rallied sharply on brisk demand
brought out by optimistic reports from
Minneapolis regarding the strike sit
uation some of the advices asserting
that the trouble had been practically 1
settled rae dispatches from Argen
tina claiming that harvesting had again
been delayed by rains aiso contriouted
materially to the upturn The bulge
however inspired moderate profit tak
sing sales which caused a loss of a
large part of the former gain The
market closed steady with December
at IOU and May at 106 The range on
the latter for the day was between
106J0J and 1061
Unsettled weather in the corn belt
failed to create any great amount of
bullish enthusiasm in the corn mar
ket At the cose prices were un
changed to Jc higher
Oats wer strong all day Prices
closed a shade to le higher
Provisions were weak and closed un
changed to J2J cents lower
