Moedl Establishment Closed
Until Management t Connects
for City Water
The most stringent step In the en
forcement of the meat inspection ordi
nance was taken yesterday when Dr J
W Treman city veterinarian refused
longer to furnish city inspection for the
Moedi Stork Slaughter house of North
Salt Lap The withdrawal of the city
inspector stopped the slaughtering at
his plant and Dr Treman said last
night 1u would not Issue another per
mit until X Moedl who conducts the
plant put i In city water or improves the
quality of the water used

the chemist says it is not fit for culinary
or domestic purposes owing to the pres

if very poor quality both nitrites and
nitrates are present Upon general ig
nition of the residue a foreign odor is
given off Furthermore the residue
cinders and blackens The yield of free
and albuminoid ammonia as well as ox
ygen consumed IB very excessive and
far beyond the commonly accepted limit
of safety showing the presence of or
ganic matter
The water IB not safe and should not
be fined for culinary or domestic pur
In taking away the city Inspector
meat at the Moedl plant killed now will
not bear the stamp of the inspector and
under no other circumstances can the
slaughterhouse sell meats in the city
Dr Treman said he would not allow the
killing of animals at the slaughter
house until a proper water supply is
furnished or unless ordered by the city
board of health to allow slaughtering
We are having samples taken of the
water used in each slaughterhouse
said Dr Treman last night and I will
have each sample anaylzed This is
where the slaughterhouse has not put

l ss the water is found to be pure
New Gould Line to Handle

A telegram announcing that freight
from Utah and California common
point wottMtoe received over the West
ern Pacific on December 20 was re
ceived yesterday by S V Derrah as
I sistant general freight agent of the
Western Pacific
Yesterday was the first day for freight
to be received over this line from the
Missouri river and points east nothing
out transcontinental freight being tak
en until December 20
The Southern Pacific gateway to the
coast will still be open however only
that portion of the freight coming over
the Denver Rio Grande that has been
louted via the Western Pacific from Salt
Lake being ubject to the change
