PROVO ORE BODY IS
HIHGRADE lEAD
First Results Obtained by
Sampling Ore Casing
Says Visitor
That the new strike in the Provo
mine in East Tintic is much better
than at first reported is the word
brought from camp yesterday by J B
Caldwell of the Rio Grande offices of
this city who had been looking after
developments in the Wicklow property
m which ne is heavily prperty
The showing on the 300foot level of
the Provo wnen he a in the mine
Monday Mr Caidwell said was at
let six feet of clean ore carrying
value of 5 per cent lead and six and
seven ounces of silver to the ton And
the face of the crosscut was yet in the
nighgrade ore The report given out
a few days ago was that seven feet
of ore gave average values of 32 per
cent lead giving rise to the conclusion
that the ore in the Provo Is not so
highgrade as is that in the East Tin
tic Development mine adjoining That
result was obtained Mr Caldwell
learned by sampling several feet of the
ore casing along with the highgrade
material
A winze which Is being sunk from
th 160foot level to prove the ore body
by
i in material of about the
abut same grade
as that which has been
ben opened on the
opene
300The
The Wicklow company owns a large
group of claims adjoining the Provo
and Eureko Lily on the north and Mr
Caldwell says that the group contains
extensions not only of the ore zones in
those properties but of that of the
Tintic Standard as well A drift which
is being driven for one of the big fis
sures is now in highly mineralized ma
terial with every indication that I is
approaching an ore body Mr Caldwel
and his associates have no doubt that
a ground big mine will be opened In the

SEES GOOD MINES
H IN NEVADA CAMPS
Those of Tonopah Goldfield
Round Mountain and
Good Springs Worthy
While the mining camps of southern
Nevada a quiet s far a the operating
rating of small properties la concerned
the big mines of Goldfleld and Tonopah
Ooldfleld Consolidated and Tonopah
Mining are making remarkable rec
ords according to Harry S Joseph
who has just returned to the city
after having made a tour of a number
of the districts to look after the per
forming of annual work upon proper
ties in which he i interested
The ore body in the Clermont shaft
of the Ooldfleld Consolidated is 8 pipe
forty feet wide forty feet thick and
300 feet long said Mr Joseph I In
entirely independent of the Mohawk
ore shoot Picture values of almost
any si lz desired may b obtained from
it and I was told that the average is
something like 200 a ton
Production from I is limited to the
tonnage required to sweeten the ore
which is sent to the mill I appears
to t an easy matter to run up th <
mill average The policy is to keep that
average close to 30 a ton and I saw
the returns for twenty days which
showed an average of I35M 8 ton
Thebulk of the tonnage sent to the
mill runs between 10 and 2 a ton
the mill is treating 70 tons a day with
the tonnage made up in proportions
required from the Mohawk Red top and
Combination Fraction workings With
Chilean mills installed I is expected
to Increase the tonnage to 9 tons a
day The Florence mine is likewise
doing well
ExtendsTonopah Ore Zone
Tonopah Mining is no only making
an excellent record in the matter of
production and the paying of dividends
but i is rapidly pushing Its proven ore
zone toward the southeast A great
deal of good work is being done in the
g
camp
The Round Mountain Mining com
pany which is one of the most promis
ing young dividendpayers in Nevada
is absorbing all of the properties with
good showing in its vicinity including
the Red Top Combination and Sphinx
The combined properties will undoubt
edly b developed into on of the great
gold mines of the west
Mr Joseph was much impressed by
the showing in the sine mines of Good
Springs Several of the mines are ship
ping others are preparing for produc
tion while the Kent propery was re
cently placed under bond for 1800000
Large bodies of exceptionally pure
zinc ore are being developed in differ
ent properties with the promise of pro
duction at relatively low cost
MUSGROVE MINE
HAS ORE AT DEPTH
Catohing Fissure oii 300Foot level
Relieves Suspense of
Management
Encountering the vein on the 309foot
Eeuntrinl te Ifoot
level where is a showing of quartz ap I
parently as good as that above has re
solved almost to a certainty the prospect I
of making a paying mine in the property
of the Musgrove Mining company near
Salmon City Ida The company is con
trolled by A H Brown and associates of
this city
Development of the Musgrove mine was
until recently confined to the 130foot
level and above There was opened 13
feet on it strike an ore shoot three feet
thick which shows average values in gold
and silver close t 30 a ton returns from
one rigid sampling of the entire body hav
rgld
ing been a little below that figure white
another gave returns above 21
The lower tunnel on what Is called the
300 level was driven some distance on
a fissure which was believed to 0 the
main vein but ore was not encountered
where I should have been found Re
cently Mr Brown made a survey when
his measurements showed that the main
fissure shcild be W feet east of the one
on which the tunnel was driven A cross
cut was run over and the vein carrying
the lookedfor ore was encountered in
just 64 feet
With drifting on the 300 level proving up
the ore shoot as anticipated arrange
ments will b for made building a mill on the ground
RYE PATCH OLD WINZE
SHOWS GOOD VALUES
The lower tunnel in the property of the
Rye Patch Consolidated Mining company
should have only from eight feet to pos
sibly 15 feet further to run to enter the
Silver Bell fissure is the report brought
from camp by W A Ray When the
tunnel reaches the fissure it will be not
far from the Borland stope where was
an immense chamber of highgrade ore
mined in the early days to a level about
80 feet above the lower tunnel Experts
who recently examined the mine found in
an old tunnel some distance back from
the face of th new tunnel and on the
Silver Bell fissure five feet of clean ore
which returned values of 346 a ton The
tunnel has for some distance been fol
lowing a good fissure which evidently
leads to the main vein the ore I carries
running J8 to 15 a ton
