Em mett Walsh, director of the county council of defense. In the last loan Esmeralda county did not try for an honor flag, so that competition j between the towns of the county might be eliminated, but the county filled the big quota by a good mar gin and as a result a four-barred flag was hoisted on the court house this morning. Accompanying the flag was a let ter from H. A. Lemmon, campaign manager for the loan in this state, saying: "On behalf of James K. Lynch, governor of the federal re serve bank of the twelfth district, I take especial pleasure in present ing to your county an honor fi; i for the Fourth Liberty Loan. “You should be proud and happy to have performed this task so well and to have received special recognition from the government. "With heartiest congratulations and thanks to you all.” It is considered particularly fit ting that the flag should have been raised today, which is Nevada ad mission day. _^ HOURS OF DARKNESS IS WHEN MS DO MOST OF SCOUIING WITH THE AMERICAN FORCES IN FRANCE, Oct. 31. — An army has many eyes, and they never ciope. At night the eyes are not so useful as during the day, of course, but when darkness comes the army uses its ears, litenlng posts here and there beyond the front line. Soldiers crawl, sometimes even within the enemy’s lines, and crawl back again before daylight and re port what they have heard. During the day aviators are re porting from time to time after flights, detailing what they have seen beyond the front. From hills, tree tops, high buildings, village church steeples and various heights, including captive balloons, move ments of the enemy are observed [ by strong glasses 10 to 15 miles | back of the lines. Every movement of troops or equipment seen by an observer is | reported. From these reports the commanders, taking into considera tion various other accounts from numerous sources, make their plans for the future and act as guides for the officers in making infantry and artillery attacks. NO lETCHESIOF INFLUENZA HERE Dr. J. L. McCarthy, county phy sician, stated .this morning that no new cases of influenza had develop ed in Goldfield and that in the case reported yesterday the patient was recovering rapidly and would be at work again in a few days. Practically everyone in Goldfield is now wearing a mask. Some peo ple still are seen on the streets without them and Dr. McCarthy called attention to the danger of this. He said he was confident the masks would stop the disease, but that everyone would have to wear them and he remarked that the en forcement of the ordinance was now in the hands of the police. Three new cases of influenza were reported in Tonopah yesterday, making a total of 22. DEPOSITS OF QUICKSILVER fContinued From Page One), ally in quartz stringers and veinlets.
