Casey & Arden, the popular hotel men of Tonopah, have opened their new place at Columbia and have named it the same as their house in Tonopah—the Mer chant's Hotel. In the cafe only the finest Kansas City meats are served, and all the delicacies to tickle the palate can always be had. The cafe is so arranged that it is always cool and pleasant. The Merchants’ now has accommoda tions for lodging 26 guests, but this will be greatly increased when the new two story building is erected. Brown of Tonopah, is doing the carpenter work on Casey & Arden’s new restaurant and lodging house. Will Marsh, the popular and hustling agent for the Columbia Towusite com puny, reports the sale of 14 lots last week. C. J. Blumeuthal, of Tonopah, will put in a branch store at Columbia, and promises to have «he building erected in 20 days. Mrs. J. Casey McDannel will erect a store building, 30x30 feet, ou Main street Columbia. One side Las been rented for a barber shop and bath room, and the other side for a dry goods store. L. H. Shaw, of Berkeley, Calif., ar rived in Columbia last week and is now with the Lothrop Davis company. Mr. Shaw is an old friend of Manager *'eyer, and is much pleased with this section. The Merchants’ Hotel, Columbia, is j now ready to receive guests. The same ' goods and courteous treatment which I make our place in Tonopah so popular will be in evidence at Columbia. Casey & Arden. * CooK Sent to Jail. A1 Cook, of Arizona, a new sojourner in this great gold camp, was on Tuesday found guilty of contempt of court and sentenced to one day in the county jail and to pay a fine of 8100. As Mr. Cook’s exchequer was not supplied with a sutfi cieney of coin, he was taken to the county jail at Hawthorne, by Coastal).e S. S. Thomas, wiiere he will remain for 51 dtiys. The contempt was throwing a lamp iit Judge Collins devoted head last Friday after His Honor had remanded the culprit to jail until such time as he could appear in court and preserve a semblance of decency. In the case of disturbing the peace, which occurred on the street one day last week, the jury rendered a verdict to the effect that the defendant was not guilty. Masonic Club. In accordance with a call published in The News of last week, more than 25 members of the Masonic fraternity con gregated in Lind & Collins’ office Tues day evening. The object of the meeting was to establish a Masonic social club in Goldtield that fraters might become ac quainted and keep in touch with each other. The temporary organization was perfected and a committee ou rules and regulations appointed. Another meeting is to be held ou the evening of the 12th, when a permanent club will no doubt be established. The roster revealed the fact that there are in Goldfield members of the fraternity from nearly every state, as well as from Canada and British Co lumbia Dope Fiends Suspected. Early yesterday morning Dob bins was found carrying some plunder from the burned district to Mann’s cabin. When questioned he said that he had hidden it under the rear of the American restaurant, where the fire started, the afternoon previous and that he aud Mann had spent the afternoon there smoking dope. I he officers will prefer charges against the suspects, they say. Celebration Notice.
