The following interesting article is
from a late issue of the Denver Mining
Record, which is doing g«ssl work in
giving publicity to developments at
droid Held and Tonopah:
“When one pauses to contemplate the
events that have occurred in the pre
cious metal mining industry of Nevada
during the past two years or more, he
cannot help standing in awe of the ap
|iarently limitless possibilities of the
mineral producing West. The Creator
lias so ordained the secrets of the rocks
that humanity with its restricted means
of discovering them can only await their
revelation with patience, lu>|>e and cour
age. No one knows and no one dares to
predict where each successive apoca
lypse of wealth will ap|>eir to the know
ledge of men. When the Nevada pros
]>ectors found their cue in the desert,
the world looked on in surprise. Hut
why? Perhaps it was the mission of
the desert to suppress its story until an
nppointed time. If it had not I teen a
desert, what a change might have lieen
made in the history of Nevada.
“History tells us that the far-famed
Comstock hsle made Nevada a sovereign
State of the great American Republic.
The silver and gold of Virginia City, as
well as of the other pioneer districts of
that region, brought in the jiopulation
that made Nevada eligible to have i s
star placed in the blue of the flag. His
tory tells us, also, tliat the decline in
the price of silver and the working out of
90111c of the richest deposits of the old
time mines caused a reaction that re
duced the census figures of the State to
fuel) a point that] politicians wondered
why Nevada was a State at all. Let the
politicians look again, and they may
gather wisdom from the secrets of the
^sei;t.

ing of the wonderful revival that has set
in in this famous oljd State. Within two
years Tonopah has assumed a command
ing position among mining men and in
vestors, and iyii less than a year the new
yamii of Goldfield has sprung into no
tice as a mining district equally remark
able. The phenomenal values that have
\>een taken from the mines since the
fjrxt of January and the large number of
shijqxTs that have been developed tell
their own story. The facts speak so
plainly that there i,s no ground for
doubting the enthusiastic stories that
visiting mining im;u bripg ffom the
painp. Tonopah has secured a railroad
and Goldfield is sun; to lx; similarly fa
vored in the near future;. With ample
transportation facilities, the necessary
piachinery, fuel, water and all these
natural accommodations, Nye and Es
meralda counties, in Nevada, will soon
be making an impression upon the pre
vious metal statistics of the country that
will admit of no mistaking.
“The friends of Goldfield arc. hjliling

large area and a large portion of it has
ljeen proven to be rich. The indications
are very favorable to the continuation
of this enthusiastic, prophecy. Tono
pah has already proven itself.

NEVADA COAL ALL RIGHT
The Product of Coaldale Mine to be
yt^lized.
The officials of the Tonopuh railroad
Ipive satisfied themselves that the Ne
vada eoal from Coaldale is equal to and
ip some resjiects superior to tjie I'tah
Coal they are now using, and as a do-,
niestfe eoal is superior to it, says the
Reno Gazette. This is a muttpr of great,
importanee as so far. it has only been
mined from a sluillpw deptji and will
most certainly improve in quality as
greater depth is reached, while in point
of cost it can bq suppljfd vqry much
qheaper than the Utah coal which now
costs $7.75 per, tou at Sodavillc. The
coal, which steams well and does qqt,
leave suyh a heavy clinker as the l’t;ih
coal, w as supplied by the Nevada Fuel
and Manufacturing company which own
the claims located by Petty ami is the
only goinpany mining-oal in that sec-,
tion, the principal stockholders bqing
Alonzo and Herbert Tripp, F. A. Keith,
X. L. Oddie and 1$. G. Gavden. A shaft
has been sunk on the vein to a depth of
170 feet, w here the coal is 18 feet wide
between walls, and from th’.^s lyvel a
crosscut was run to a parallel vein 14
feet wide, all solid coal of commercial,
value.
The company will now sink an 8 by 10
shaft to open up the ground and mine
the coal on an extensive scale. The im
portance of this industry to the district
and the whole State cannot, be overesti
mated, as the success of tins undertak
ing will settle the problem cheap fuel
throughout Nevada.
Id about six weeks Casey expects to
have his new Merchants’ hotel at Colum
bia ready to receive guests. The bath

Survey for Sampler.
According to the Virginia Enterprise
the surveys have liee^i completed and
work commenced on the sidetracks for
a $40,000 sampler, which is to'^e built
at Mound House.

Nevada Fields Attract Mining Hen
From Cripple Creek.

advance guard of those who are coming
here from the Centennial State. The
Reno Gazette rejmrts the arrival there a
few days ago of Jainea Murray and W.
R. Foley, en route toTonopali and Gold
field to look over the mining resources
of the great Southern Nevada camps
with a view to taking hold of several
properties that may give promise of de
veloping into producers. They state
that liecause of the strike conditions
throughout the Centennial State the
mining industry is practically paralyzed
and the conditions in Cripple Creek are
particularly strained. As a result a
great many of the mine ojierators of Col
orado are leaving for other fields.
In Denver, Colorado Springs and Pu
eblo, and in fact in all of the mining
centers of the State, a very favorable
opinion is entertained regarding Nevada,
and especially of the Tonopah and Gold
field districts. All news from this sec
tion is eagerly sought for and there will
un<|iie*tionahly be almost a hegira of
mining men to the Nevada fields within
the next few months. Many are ar
ranging their affairs as rapidly as possi
ble to leave for the new gold fields and
as the gteatness of the camp becomes
1 more generally knownHhrough the ex
ploitation of the district in the press of
the country and a continued increase in
; the output of precious metals, a great
I influx of people will surely follow. It
will be no surprise, declares Mr. Foley,
if Tonopab and Goldfield are destined to
! become another Cripply Creek.
With reference to the showing of the
properties of the district Mr. Foley said
he was ignorant, excepting so far as he
had been informed from those he had
talked with who had been there and the
newspaper comment he had read. It is
,i remarkable fact, however, that he had
not met or heard of a single man who,
'after visiting the camp, had other than
iu good word for it. This could not be
said of any other section lip had heard
or read of.
The Merchants’ hotel, at Columbia,
continues to attract travelers who desire
prompt table service. * {
Tonopah Mining Sale.
A sale of a group of seven claims ad
joining the Rod Rock and 1‘ittsburg-To
tiopali was made last week to A. 11. But
ler of San Francisco. The group was
isold by Lou and Frank Davis anti the
purchase price is said to have been $•’>(,),
000.

Tule Canyon Cre.
The Reno Gazette states that Geo.
A. Sanford, the well-known miner and
assaver, has arrived in Reno with soing
line samples of ore from the property
dicing worked by Reno parties in Tule
canyon, about twelve miles south of
Lida. The samples assay from $151 to
$402 in gold, and also carry lead and ,
silver, the latter in small amount.
. Goldfield is the business center and,
center of population of the district. Buy
