AN INGENIOUS THIEF Gets Away With a SacK of Honey from Gambling House. tsl to Tin Ni»v) Tonop.ui, Nev.. IVc. 11.— Monday morning the Tono|«ib Club at Tonopah w:u the menr nf a Hurry of excitement as great a-1 that tvhieli attends a new and sensational strike in an nnlooked for (oration. During the ••arty morning hours, an unknown culprit got to the strong hox of the Tonopah Club. where tin- money is dc|<ositcd after the closing of the roulette w heel, ami it* a manner that showed that In- was adept at the business, got the wheel money sack which contained about There is not a elite as to who the thief is. and little likelihood that his idenity will ever be known. The burglar evidently well knew the ground which he had to trav erse. His line of travel was under sev eral of the adjoining buildings until he reached a |H-int directly under the 1m>x in the rear of the Club, and then bored through the floor up into that portion of the depository containing the money. No one knew of the theft until alsmt s o'clock when the proprietors went to get the money to open the wheel with. The discovery was then made and the manner in which the sack hail been taken. The perpetrator of the crime had evi dently studied out his line of action in the same manner as that carried otit in the robbery of the Selby Smelting Co.'s bullion depository in California a few years ago. Some admiration is manifest here for the cunning of the burglar in his method of operation, t <r at no time during the night was *1 * saloon closed. Severn 1 em ployes being continually on duty. Will Not Return Nevada’s Exhibit. A St. lamis dispatch says: The min eral and agricultural display that \vn« sent from Nevada to the Louisiana Pur chase Kx|M»sition will not Ik- returned to this State, hut will remain in St. Louis and form a part of the great mu seum that is being established there from the various displays that went to make up the exposition. This determination was reached by the Nevada fair commission yesterday and will doubtless meet with the hearty approval of the people of the State. The Nevada display, especially in the mineral section, was one of the most magnificent at the exjsisition and at tracted wide attention. It was recog nized by the committee on awards as one of the best and it won several gold medals. It included mineral specimens from every county in State, many of them from the richest mines ever lo cated. It is believed that by allowing the display to remain in the great museum that is being established at St. Louis that it will serve a purpose more use ful than if brought back to Nevada where it would be seen by few of the outside world. Conditions But Weakly Described. R. .1. Watson, better known to his many friends as “Pick” Watson, came in from Goldfield last evening. He is on a brief visit and exacts to return within the next few days. Mr. Watson is now general manager of the Hulls and Bears Mining company, one of the most promising mining organizations in the bonanza district. He reports that every thing that has been said of the country has but weakly descrilfed the true con ditions of that section. “Every stage arriving in the camp," said Mr. Watson last evening, “is loaded to the guard rails with passengers, most of whom are going there with a view of organizing and helping in the develop ment of the camp. In nearly every in stance the men who want to succeed are doing so.” The Bulls and Bears company is now engaged in developing principally, al though some ore is l>eing taken out. Mr. Watson states that twelve men are engaged in this work and that the con ditions are very favorable that this force w ill probably be increased at an early date. BacK from Tonopah. L. K. Kendrick returned Sunday by way of Austin from a two week’s visit to Touapali and <ioldtield, says tiie I.li re k a Sentinel. He reports that Tono pah and < ioldtield are booming camps, escpeeially tile latter place. (Ioldtield is now larger than Tonopah. While in both camps he met a great many old acquaintances, among whom were liert Hood, who is employed in tiie railroad depot in Tonopah, and George Polking horne, formerly a conductor on the N. C. who also holds a position with the railroad. Neil Olsen, formerly of Ga lena, is located in (ioldtield where lie is engaged in prospecting. Lawrence says that Tonopah and Goldfield has a great future. Home from Lida. Charles Grant, who has been in the Lida district for several months, ha> returned to Reno, says the Journal. He thinks the gold fields alsait Lida will yield many great fortunes in tin next few years. Tom Summers, lie says, lias bonded his claims for $11,000. Visits Her Old Schoolmate. Mrs. Ueba Greenwood-Dawson of Seneca. Kas., stopped off between trains Tuesday with her old schoolmate, Mrs. II. O. Mack. Mrs. Dawson was on her way to (ioldtield where her husband is interested in mining.—Keno Journal. FALLS FORTY FEET. Peter U»ler Severely Injured on the January. When picked up he was unconscious, and his fellow workmen thought him dead. Medical aid was summoned at once and after the injured ' man's wounds were temporarily dressed lie was removed to the hospital here , where his injuries received thorough at tention.
