We give pace to this letter principally for the reason that thereareaniiniherof Boulder people here who will he put in a false light with their friends if the latter are so misguided as to believe the state ments in Teal's letter, which follows: Ocf.an I'prk, Cal., Dec. »>, l'Jv)4. A few lines from me will doubtless lie acceptable and also of interest to those who contemplate a trip to the gold tields of Nevada. Much has been written about the won dertul resources of the mining camps, a great deal by men wiio have everything to gain and nothing to lose, and by others w ho struck the camp early, got in on the ground Ho. >r and were success ful either in striking it rich or selling out to those who iiad the ready com and were carried away by the prevailing excitement. It's the same old story, one hears only of the successful men and the good mines. The investments of hund reds of thousands of dollars in the pur chase of worthless ground, the sinking • it deep slialts and the top equipments in many cases without an assay to show fur the investment—these are passed up like the ordinary i>ob-tail flush, and no one is tiie w iser excepting those who are actually sitting in the game and inter estgfl^in the rake-off. With *ach glass of water, price 15 cents, a chaser ot whisky or other alcoholic stim ulant is inriiished with which to neutral ize as far as possibtc the evil effects of the water, It's a poor place for those ddiclcd to teetutaiism. cli train briu/s in from 50 to 100 the majority of whom have "ket and are minus the search of work ; of this ■ill ami overflow ins;. .'.in work anil can ’ie truffle would ■s the other, l ose who suv here t ey V Ht per lly "f iv ay in ilea and i 20 iica. Teal." r T.-al was never .-.-re, am! had seen me gin 'cent surface t if i would have such -tr. tores upon if, while in Tonopuh, all night and sleep off it day, he should have f rich or. going through ‘ that place from Goldfield. When he went through Reno, he could have in terviewed Charles Snyder (who is well i and favorably known in Builder) who would have told him that his firm, the Western Ore Purchasing company, had 1 paid in the |«st few months $1,500,000 for Goldfield ores, and that some of it ran $1,000 a ton in carload lots, while sjieci ' men assays would go almost any old figure. Mr. Teal says: “The best piece of ore I got to see in Tonnpah was about an inch wide and assayed $145 per ton.” Had he come here he could have seen “streaks” many feet wide which would have lieaten that figure—and he need take no one's word for it. He could break the ore and pin or assay it him self. Mr. Tual lavs great stress uimn gam blers and gambling in this section. There are gamblers and gambling in Goldfield as there are in all new anil booming min ing camps, but there is also the best average class of people here the writer has ever met since he left his New Eng land home. In Paris there are low re sorts where the cancan is danced and where gambling is wide o|>en; there are also beautiful art galleries and other at tractions in that city where people of refinement love to go. Some returning visitors know nothing but of the slums of Paris, others only of its great art treasures—each looked for, and found, that which his taste craved. Will a similar reason account for Mr. Teal’s turning down a section, only a small part of which he ever saw? Did he indulge in “chasers of whisky” until he could not see the immensely rich ore bodies that others have seen? Did he deposit his money in the faro bank in stead of the financial institution where it could have been drawn out on de mand? We know not. Hut we do know that men so well and favorably known in Boulder county an Messrs. Wise, Frankeberger, Lucv,Yates, Dodge, Gentry, Sullivan, Wiggers, Brown and scores of others will agree that his letter in the Boulder Cam era is the product of malice or a diseased imagination. The office poet adds his mite in the following tribute to George: There was a young duck named Teal Who came out West on a ileal; He got full in Tonopah And went “belly up,” ah! You orter hear the sucker squeal. Result of the Election. Acting-Governor Lem Allen has made proclamation of the result of the No vember election as follows: C. A Ahei n, as presidential elector. James L. Butler, as presidential elec tor. W. I. l’luinb, as presidential elector. C. D. Van Duzer, as representative in congress. F. 11. Norcross, as justice of the su preme court. Oscar J. Smith, as regent of the state university (longterm). H. S. Sarrett, as regent of the state university (short term). And that the proposed constitutional amendment submitted to the voters at said election was carried by a majority of the electors voting thereon.
