The broad-gauge rails for the C. A C. road have been laid to a point about eight miles south of Dayton and the ties for some distance beyond. The Yering ton Times says that as soon as the broad gauge cars begin running into Wabuska business at that point will be quite | lively. The company proposes to put in between two and three miles of side track and build a large freight house at this point, and freight will be trans ferred there for all imints south until the road is broad-gauged into Tono|iah. It is expected that broad-gauge cars will be running into Wabuska by the tirst of next February, or not later than the 15th. Wonderful Neruda Caro. What is probably the outlet of one of the lost or disappearing riven in East ern Nevada is a huge cave near the line of the Salt Lake A Los Angeles railroad, about 60 miles west of Calientes in Lin coln county. E. L. Magrader of Sioux City, Iowa, who is exploring the cave for E. H. llar rirnan and Senator W. A. Clark of Mon tana, has given out that the beauty of the cave’s stalactites and stalagmites is something wondrous. The latter rise from the floor in the shape of trees. Some of them are 30 feet high. The stalactites are represented as forming all sorts of beautiful designs. Magriuler bus gone into the cave a distance of 2,400 feet and found six or seven mag nificent crystallized chambers. Several of them are of great size and heigth. At the end of the cavern there is an is an abyss far down in which can be beard the roar and splash of running waters. An attempt will lie made by Magruder to find the depth of this abyss anil try and trace the source of the hid den river. Heavy Express Business. It took hours to transfer the express yesterday at Mound House. The South ern Pacific express car, which is bird) for the season by the V. & T., is taken off at that place and the train proceeds to Virginia City, otherwise the down train would be all day getting to its des tination.—Carson News. An immense freight automobile, capa ble of drawing several heavily loaded wagons, arrived in the city yesterday from San Francesco and this morning departed for Tonopah and Gotdfeeld, be tween which points it will lie used for freighting purposes, says the Reno Ga zette. XI|am its arrival the huge ma chine was taken in charge by two ma chinists who accompanied it and the trip to the great southern country was begun. The auto is a powerful machine and is fitted up on the style of a locomotive, having a closed cab at the rear, in which the driver sits. It is capable of hauling several large freight wagons on a heavy grade and will probably be an import ant factor in clearing up the freight con gestion at Tonopah. Mil* a Hinnte Hail Train. It has been given out that beginning with January tt of next year the South ern Pacific company will put on a new mail train, to run between San Fran cisco and Ogden, with a schedule of 5J miles an hour. This will mean a mile a minute service on this road and will give the West a train that can compare favorably with those of any line in the East. The fastest train now is the Overland limited, with the schedule not over 40 miles an hour. When tiiis train was first pul on there were many “wise” ones who s;id that it could not last, and that a speed of 40 miles an hour over the roads here would lie impossible. Since that time the Southern Pacific people have been at a great expense bal lasting the roadbed until they feel con fident that the track can stand the strain of a mile a minute travel. 'Die exact reason for putting on this train is not given, but it may be influ enced somewhat by the construction of tlie Western Pacific road. Another Leasing Company. Samuel Blair of this city and Charles K. Winter of Grand Kncainpment.Wyo., have returned from Goldfield, Nev., where they secured a lease on what is known as the Patrick claim, says the Ogden State Journal. It is their pur jRise of incorjMirating and forming a lo cal stock company, consisting of 125 shares at $100 each. A meeting will he held at the offices of Henderson Mc Millan this evening when the prelimi nary steps will be taken. The claim is a valuable piece of prop erty as it is in line with the famous Jumbo, January, Combination, Flor ence and Lone Star claims and the new company will develop it to its fullest extent.
