News Building, Goldfield REDUCTION PLANT FOR SEARCHLIGHT Xews of considerable importance to the Canyon country, made known this ' week, is that the Georgia property, un der Superintendent Bergman, is to have a reduction plant, says the Bulletin. It will consist only of cyaaiuiag to begin with, but other features will be added as rapidly as may be expedient from this first step in production. It has been proven by thorough tests that there is a quantity of $10 rock that is amenable to eyaniding; that this will extract both gold and silver values to a considerable depth, even embrac ing the so-called base ores where such will run “free” to the extent of 30 to 40 per cent. Amalgamating tables may be added a little later. The new mnchinerv will include a hoist for the Georgia claim, as well as engine, crusher and grinder. The re duction plant will be located on the Dixev Girl which will permit a gravity haul from also the Georgia and Gold Coin, all of which are undergoing devel opment. Add to Holdings Just before President B. Franklin Mills of the Golden Triangle Mining company, accompanied by Mrs. Mills, left for his home at San Diego, Cal., he closed a deal whereby the company’s holdings in the district were materially increased. The deal in question was the purchase from Messrs. Hudgens and Rawlings of the Mary Murphy and Kaglc claims, located just south of the Searchlight Consolidated in tho northern part of the district. Xo less than five separate and well defined ledges are said to cross the property from which good surface values are obtainable. This group, added to the one adjacent to the Pitts burg, gives the company a large ucre age. Preparing for Mill Superintendent Bpanogie or rne Bu yer Legion is now sinking a shaft for water development nt a point about one-lialf mile west of the camp. This is incidental to the installation in the near future of a reduction plant. The upraise work that is now being run in the Legion mine, is within 20 feet of daylight. Following this work the shaft will be sent down from the 100 to the 200 level. There has been no diminution of the excellent values for which this property has long been noted. The ore bins are full to running over and otherwise there is such an accumu lation of ore as is speaking loudly for some early disposition of same. Mr. Sartain of this company, who has been in Los Angeles on company business for several weeks, is expected back to day. Word has preceded him that he has been largely successful in matters pertaining to more rapid progress of the work. He has purchased a six cylinder, GO-h.p. National automobile for himself and his active co-workers, Messrs. Spanogle and Landis. The present Tourist car will continue in the company's service. Important Discovery With the advent of Superintendent Manion things are moving with the Red Star Mines company, and this past week, in addition to the letting of two leases, an important new discovery has been made. The new strike was the finding of a parallel vein on the Double Stanard which pans high on the surface. So far a depth of only a few feet has been gained, but even so, sufficient ore has been exposed to convince the manage ment that an important discovery has been made—one that is bound to add materially to the already proven value of the property. Ophir Declares Dividend Ophir Silver Mining company re sumed payment of dividends Tuesday when dividend 23 was declared, pay able May 21st. Books close Saturday at noon. The dividend is ten cents. EXTENSIVE DEVELOPMENT FOR NEW CAMP OF SKOOKUM Geo. Watt returned to Skookum the first of the week from a business trip to Reno. Tonopah and Goldfield. The trip was a success from the financial point and in the vernacular of the ring, George brought home the bacon. The trip was made for the purpose of disposing of the first allotment of treasury stock of the Gweenah Spanish Belle Mining company and also that of the Watt Mining company. These se curities were disposed of and Mr. Watt says that in the citiea he visited capital, even though a financial panic had just passed, was eager to take up the stock he offered. A Skookum Booster O. K. Jarvis, representing Goldfield mining men, was a visitor here during the past week. Mr. Jarvis is well known in mining circles of this state anil can come ns near as the next one ' in picking out the camps that make good. When seen by the Times man he said: “Illness prevented me from seeing ns much of your camp ns I desired, but I snw enough to give me a pretty good idea of what the possibilities from a mining standpoint your district is capable of. The surface showings are away ahead of those of a majority of the new camps and a number of good dividend paying mines will be the re sult of proper development. Your prop erties have merit and you can put me down as a Skookum booster.’’ Watt Mining Oo. Development has taken the main shaft on the Watt Mining company’s property down to the 114-foot point, where a ledge carrying gold and silver ore is daily improving as to quality and the size of the vein. The power hoist, which was recently purchased, is en route to the mine and its arrival is daily expected. It will be immediately installed npon its arrival. Two shifts are now being worked and another is to be added upon the com pletion of the hoist. Rankin-Bonner Lease The excellent showing made on the Rankin-Bonner lease Inst week still holds good and both valnes and ledge show improvement. Two shifts are at work and the abaft is down forty feet in a big ledge, the ore of which is of a shipping value. This lease is on the lemaire property and developments of the past week have placed it among the favorites of the ramp. Lemaire Property Development is each day showing np the Lemaire mine as one of the most promising in the whole camp. In the main workings of this property at a depth of 70 feet drifts on the ledge both north and south are being run. Both drifts are in ore carrying high grade shipping values. The rich vein at this depth shows a width of 22 inches, and if values continue to in crease with depth as they have thia week, this property alone will make fortunes for its owners. Henry Lemaire. general manager of the Lamairo properties here, returned from Battle Mountain Monday and spent the greater part of the week in specting his properties and looking after the work now under wav. He re ported development progressing in a most satisfactory manner and says the showing is all that could be wished for. A power hoist has been purchased for the main Lemaire shaft and the machin ery to bo installed will be of a nature to carry on development at great depth. The hoist will arrive soon and after it has been installed the present working force will be doubled and development pushed in this mine. DEVELOPING LARGE ORE BODIES IN JUMBO DISTRICT The surface ground of the Cargo is flip scene of great activity these days and in the underground workings they are still going after the big ore body that will soon be yielding its bullion at the eompnny’s mill, says the Jumbo Miner. In tho air shaft a north drift has been started following the new ledge that was discovered 20 feet above the bottom. From the east side of the shaft to the north drift from the old shaft the ledge shows a width of 12 feet, and disclosed that this ledge is entirely in dependent of the main Bargo vein. It is full of small stringers that give high values and one streak 12 inches in width is laden with heavy sulphurets and free gold. On each side of the streak the high grade stringers are found. There are also numerous bunches of higher grade ore scattered through the ledge. Tho course of the vein indicates that within 25 feet it will connect with the big ledge in the north drift. If such a thing occurs it will give the Selby Con. one of the largest ore bodies in the west, and judging from the values that are found in the new ledge the probability of a big increase when tho two meet is something to conjure with. All the roek piled on the dump, sev eral hundred tons in all, will stand sort ing and milling. This will be done as soon as the mill is ready to start, and will add greatly to the company’s revenue. Another Lease Granted F. K. Seaman and associates of Colo rado and Goldfield have taken a lease for IS months on the northeast portion of the North Star claim and will start work immediately. Swan-Lawton Lease A six-horse team came in Wednesday bringing lumber and equipment for the Swan Lawton lcnse on the April Fool. The shaft has been sunk 15 feet in ledge matter that gives fair values, nnd from this time on work will be rushed until the 50-foot level is reached, at which point crosscuts will be started to explore the ledge at that depth. Cllnch-Werner Lease The shaft on the Clinch Werner Thompson lease on the West Gopher has reached a depth of 30 feet. The shaft has been timbered and all the equipment is in shape for extensive work. The bottom of the shaft shows several stringers of ore that give good values. The operators arc hopeful of finding a ledge of gooil proportions as these small veins are sunk on. Approaching the Lodge The shaft on the Van Ettcn-Foster lease on the Empire has reached a depth of 50 feet, and the formation in dicates a near approach to the ledge that shows to the southward. The shaft has passed through the hard porphyry and has cut a vein that shows heavy iron sulphides and cuprite in large quantities. The leasers expect to cut the ledge carrying the values within the next few days. Installing Whim The Washington-Nevada Develop ment company has received a two-horse whim which will be installed at the shaft on the Buenos claim immediately. The shaft has reached a depth of 45 feet, and as ore is being extracted regu larly and windlass was found to be too slow. Two shifts are employed on the prop erty. The incline shaft is all in ore of shipping value. About 100 tons have accumulated on the dump and Manager Du Bois is planning a shipment of ore that will run better than $100 a ton. The values run largely in silver in parts of the ledge, and assays as high as 1,800 ounces have been obtained. NEWS BUILDING Anthony, dr. e. h.. Bruce * jones BRUCE, H. F.. BULLFROG GOLD BAR M. CO..
